Who would rehearse here?

I'm in the process of planning a rehearsal studios facility somewhere in Dublin.
Premises isnt finalised yet as I'm looking for something quite specific.

I just want to try and get an idea what kind of interest there would be in such a venture.

There would be 3 or 4 spacious rooms which will all be about 165 sq. feet each, fully soundproofed, air conditioned, and kitted out with good quality gear and PA system. Equipment such as snares, cymbals etc will be available to rent if needed.
There will also be a kitchen room with free tea/coffee etc.

The cost would be around €60 for a 5hr session, and there will be day and night sessions.

Storage for equipment will also be available.

If three bands want to get together and hire a room on a permanent basis between them then that can be arranged, and would cost about €1200 per room per month. (€400 per band, roughly €100 per band member per month).

If people would be interested in this and would rehearse there could they post up their interest here, (and not just think "yeah, we'd be interested in that" but not post it up!) ;) because I'd like to get an idea of numbers and firm interest etc.

    Thanks, Barry.

firstly what do you have to offer that other studios dont?
    try pricing competitvely.
like most bands i know struggle to pay for strings never mind 100 a month.
i know costs have to be covered but think about it.

in terms of how to set up & run your studio, go into any rehearsal room in dublin..
and do the opposite (bar the factory).

ive only had bad experiences with studios in dublin.
    whether it be staff/gear/smells/shocks/sound/vibe

That is priced competitvley. €100 per month is roughly €25 per week, and if youre in a band that are serious and practicing 3/4 times per week then that €25 is a lot cheaper than 3/4 times €12-15 per 5hr session. Plus you get to use your own gear every time and leave it in storage, so no dragging **** around.

There are planty of bands out there at the moment who would/could/and do practice 3/4 times a week, and if your serious about the band then you should be practicing that much.

As for running the place, I have practicd in every dump in this city, and my main aim would be to create the opposite of those places, i.e. good quality well looked after gear, spacious comfortable rooms (not sweat-boxes), clean toilets/kitchen, and a professional setup (for example, the PA system would be setup like a stage, with 3 wedge monitors on the ground, one for the drummer and two between the rest of the band, placed for the best sound, not just randomly thrown into any corner of the room).

I agree the price is very competitive. I also agree with the other poster who said go into any practice room in Dublin and do the opposite - bar Factory. We practice in the factory and it is head and shoulders above all others...I would say go into the factory and copy what they are doing...professional staff, big rooms, proper desks, equipment etc. Rather than worrying about undercutting other places go for quality and people will gladly pay. Lastly storage and parking I wouldn;t worry about having amplifier, drumkits etc if you sort the storage then this won't been an issue for your customers. Factory is closing (for definate!) next summer and there is a serious need for a replacement facility. Think big - price accordingly, if people want cheap and nastly they are a plenty of ****box studios knocking about...why compete with them? If you are serious about this why not call into the factory and have a chat to the lads there? Most of the staff have worked there for years...they know what they're doing. With any luck one of them will start a new factory when the axe finally falls.

    Why is the factory closing?

apparently its been closing for about three years now but problems with planning have kept the bulldozers at bay. Treasury holdings are building a 32 story mixed development on the site and it now looks for def that it will start in the summer. I guess the new factory will be in the City west or on the M50 somewhere curse the DDDA.
