BORING lecturers?

Is it just me or is the standard of the lecturers in the college really low? I know we're only a week and a half into it but it feels like introductory lecture after indroductory lecture. It's like they say something pointless, pause for thirty seconds and then stumble apathetically over another pointless sentence.

It also happens that lecturers don't turn up, misprints on the timetable etc, I find the college to be fairly disorganised and that information isn't readily available without going to ask questions in the little green hut or pestering your mentor about every little thing. They say they'll have something on the notice board today and it only appears 4 days later....

I can't sit through these lectures. Computer studies today with [Deleted] was unbearable. As someone who knows how to program in C already I'm itching to go faster, and fair enough there are people who know nothing about computers in this class but nobody learned a THING in that class about computers, beginner or otherwise. He sounds like he was talking through his ass really

Do you have a class rep? Thats why they're there - get them onto it.

I doubt he'll track me down, he's too busy making awkward pauses!

Nah we haven't nominated anyone yet for class rep, and they can hardly make the lecturers more interesting.

Grass, tis only the first week.
    The work starts next week.
Things can seem like the place is in a tizzy, but the vast majority of the lecturers know what they're at, and most of them can get it across to the bodies sitting in the seats.

Don't skip lectures. You will honestly regret it. This is from someone who píssed away the time doing sfa instead of showing up to certain lectures only to have to go pulling regular 48hour stints during the exams. The migranes and constant crankiness is not fun, not to mention pretty much missing every christmast for the past 4 years because I was in bed recovering.

    True.

OP, wait till Tuesdays in CS102. They are SO MUCH FUN!

Also, his booklet can be bought at the secreteriate, the place with the photocopiers next to smokies for about 3e.

Also, what course are you doing? Demominated or undenominated? If undenominated what group are you in?

Yeah I've been kinda looking forward to the practicals. The people who have him for maths in engineering seem to love the guy strangely enough, but i just found the first lecture unbearable.

    I'm denominated, doing experimental physics.

I know I should probably put my faith in them that it will pick up a bit but it's not that easy when we're learning why a computer is not like a lawnmower.

The practicles are mainly finger excercises, or just modifying his programs.

    Ah for feck sake...

Where's the fun stuff you speak of?

I used to fall asleep in the back of Power's lectures, very boring.

It may be the difference between a computer and a lawnmover now, but in 2 years they will be asking you to model quantum tunnelling in C++. Have a little faith in your lecturers they have been doing this for awhile, also they have open door policy so maybe he is better one to one. My year in physics did quite with alot doing masters going on to be medical physicists, teachers electronic engineers and IT administrators etc. We where also to hangover to notice wether it was boring or not at lectures. Also if you miss some (I missed alot) you had to photocopy notes which took ages at exam time. My advice bite the bullets and go to the lectures. Lectures dont have a clause in their contract to have FUN lectures.

I was a class rep in Galway, though in a different course. The incompetence is amazing, and as far as I can tell, it's everywhere. You'll break yourself before you break any sense into the system.

I actually fell asleep during an economics lecture once, I mean, in every single other lecture I was grand, but once I entered the realm of a certain lecturer who shall not be named within this thread, it was a struggle to keep my eyes open.

The time I fell asleep I Was at the very back, and I felt so bad when I woke up, I was kinda thinking....holy ****....I thought that's the kinda thing that happens to other people and you laugh about it!

Still though in fairness, boring he was, incompetent he wasn't, good lecturer.
