    Hey all,
    Has anyone driven in Croatia?

If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could enlighten me!
    1) Is an Irish full driving lincence sufficient to rent a car?
    2) What are the roads like (specifically, along the coast).
    3) Has anyone driven from Rijeka to Dubronik?
    4) We are arriving into Trieste at 14:20 local time. Is it reasonable to expect to be able to get across the border to Rijeka for a reasonably early time?

    Cheers!!!

    2) What are the roads like (specifically, along the coast). Very very windy from Split to Dubrovnik especially. You get used to it ... very disconcerting at first. Croatian drivers quite aggressive.

    Yes

you only need to be 21 in croatia to hire a car but ya you do need your passport... lots of little agencies for rental on all the islands and in the cities but its better to go with the big agencies cos of the drop off options...
the drive from Split to Dubrovnik is... interesting, you go through Bosnia and Herzogovina for a little while - passports needed again at the border....
The road is LETHAL.... drivers passing out on blind bends on cliff roads with no barriers... i was sh1ttin it i dont mind tellin you.
Beautiful drive though apart from that.
On Croatia, dont miss Hvar and Mljet - they were my fav islands.
Day trip to Mlket from Dubrovnik on the hydrofoil is enough... some spot.
Thought Split was better than Dubrov.
more like a real city and just as beautiful and more to do in my opinion.
    have a great holiday.

Yeah, agree with previous opinions. Rented a car in Split two summers ago for about 300euro for a week from a small local agency guy. Plenty of well-known places around too. Only needed Irish license and passport I think.
Drive to Dubrovnik is beautiful but scary for two reasons. One, the drivers are a little mad, do tend to try passing out on corners, etc. A lot of drive you are travelling on windy roads over pretty high and unprotected cliffs. Stunning scenery as long as you have head for heights.
We stopped off in place called Zaostrog (bout half way down). Nice campsite and beaches there. Thought Dubrovnik was fantastic myself. And trips to some islands a must. We drove back up a little peninsula which again is stunning but a little breathtaking with heights.

Heading off tomorrow. Its a bit of a seat of the pants affair really - i've just finished a thesis and GF is up to her eyeballs at work so we don't have much organised.

    Still, it'll be class.

That would be the Peljesac peninsula, passing through Ston ;)
