Looking for a gym (southside Dublin)

As the title says, looking for a gym on southside Dublin. Since I'm stuck to public transport, I'd need one close enough to Blackrock (or have access to it through DART or bus).

I've only tried Crunch Dun Laoghaire, think they'd be the closest one to me; yet I don't know what they're on. Rang them up a few times to get a price, however since their "manager" was out they couldn't give one over the phone...

Had to go to the place and ask. €650 in total, access to Crunch Temple Bar included as an incentive. Was hoping that I could go for at least six months but you must do twelve... bit ridiculous really.

So, €650 is a bit much, right? I plan to use it, but whether I'll be stuck in Ireland for twelve months straight is unlikely. And I'll need to use it alot to get my money's worth.

Besides that, are there any better alternatives out there?

€650 including joining fee isn't too shabby for a year. Excluding joining fee, it's about average afaik.

Yes, €650 includes the joining fee.

What sort of gym do you want mate?
There are a few nice little bodybuilding gyms around the city centre but they wont have saunas/jacuzzi's ect.

Ideally I'd like one with a decent weights section along with a pool, sauna, etc. but I'll consider anything if the money's right.

Did you look at WestWood in Sandymount, should be not to far from the
    DART - walking distance? www.westwood.ie

Yeah - Westwood Sandymount is around a 5 min walk from Sydney Parade Dart station (note that the Sandymount Dart station is further away) - although if you wanted to stay on the Dart for longer you could make it out to the much larger Westwood Clontarf (also has a big pool if that was important)...

Westwood Leopardstown you could get to using the 114 from Blackrock, but it isn't very frequent, and you still have a long enough walk from the entrance of Leopardstown Racecourse around to the gym entrance on the far side

The problem with Westwood Leopardstown is that its 70 a month and a 250 euro induction. Or 8 hundred and something for the year. Crunch is a good bit cheaper (Dun Laoghaire) and for that you get membership to Crunch templebar too. Its a grand gym. If westwood was a bit closer and cheaper I would probably go there though. Although all I use is the weights I still havent used the pool or any of the other crap

you can go off-peak in Sandymount (6am-4pm entrance mon-thur; all day fri-sun) for Eur 50 a month... they may have a referral discount on membership if you know someone in the gym already - a mate got in for Eur 100 joining fee earlier in the year using that anyhow... can also use the other two Westwoods although not sure what their off-peak cut-off times are...

the original poster did mention wanting a <12 mth contract, think it is expensive though around Eur 400 for 3 months but supposed to have access to the 3 gyms - best give them a call as they would be the best people to ask for specifics like that

"off-peak cut-off times" for WestWood Leopardstown are Mon-Fri 6am-4pm and Sat/Sun 4pm-8.30pm(=closing time gym-pool/ you have to leave the building at 9pm). I guess it is the same for Clontarf, not sure so.

Once I got to Clontarf on a Saturday or Sunday early afternoon, before 4pm and still got in there with my off-peak membership in Leopardstown.

Does Crunch in Dun Loaghaire have a off peak membership?

i'm in westwood and pretty sure the entire weekend is off peak, i.e 8am friday morning to 4 pm monday night is all off peak, the only peak times are 4pm-closing, mon - thursday..

Well €400 for three months is a tad hefty tbh. Off-peak membership wouldn't really suit either, could imagine it becoming a pain in the ass.

€650 for two gyms in two better locations for twelve months is definetly more appealing.

From what I'm getting here, the Crunch deal doesn't sound too bad right? It looks like a nice gym and all. Have to make a decision before October hits though (price increase of €250 is due ) so in the meantime, are there any other other viable options I should consider? Is UCD gym any good?

the ucd gym actually is a crunch franchise now..
