Inspiration needed.....

    Hi All,

I've been making my own cards for about 2 years now and normally manage to find inspiration without too much trouble. However I'm never much good with teens. My niece's 13th birthday is coming up and she's a goth/metal fan. I have NO idea how to make a handmade birthday card appealing to her.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

    Mareth

what kind of materials/ what kind of cards do you normally use?

you should try www.images.google.com and run a search on either/ both. you should get an idea for a general colour scheme and a possible font to use, also might give you a good idea of what subject mater you should use, redefine the search if it's too broad based on the sort of stuff that comes up for you. here's what i found for types of font : http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=gothic%2Bfont&btnG=Search and here's what i found for "goth and birthday card" http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=gothic%2Bbirthday%2Bcard&btnG=Search, maybe do a search on "spirtual"/ "hard rock?"

how about something like this for a font

and maybe something simple like this for the main design:

    or this

I've a decent selection of stamps, pads and embossing powders; mulberry/handmade papers, outline stickers, beads, sequins, feathers, skeleton leaves, a few brass stencils for embossing paper (just discovered this and think it's great), ribbons, general crafty bits and bobs.

I really like the idea of that last once Snorlax, Thanks. I think I might have a go at adapting that a bit, unfortunately I have no flowers so it'll have to just be a rough adaptation.

    Thanks for those.

maybe pressing some flowers using a telephone directory and leave them to dry for a few days?
id say you could use abit of tin foil wound up, and some red tissue paper to make the card above (red/ tissue is a euro in art/ hobby shop).

anway keep us up to date about what you do decide to do (i'm sure some other posters may have some ideas too :)!)

Black & red is a FAB colour scheme for any goth & maybe an image of a cross??

I was thinking black and red too! You could write it with a silver/gold pen

i like the rose card idea too

What I did in the end was, a black card, with a piece of handmade paper almost the size of the card on front of it (paper is black with red rose petals in it). Then stuck little mirror squares, about 2x2cm square, onto it in the shape of a crucifix. Lined with a nice piece of maroon/blood red paper.

Didn't bother to put "Happy Birthday" on the front of the card, only in the middle, as I thought she might like to stick on her bedroom wall, once her birthday's over.

Posted it today and unfortunately didn't take a pic beforehand.

Thanks for all the advice :)
