Can't get dual layer to write

I'm using a NEC 3500, I just updated the firmware and nero but it keeps rejecting the Verbatim DVD-R saying that there's not enough space. Any ideas? Some one mentioned a nero plugin pack but I doubt that'll work.

You may have to format it, nero has issues doing that for me i use Alcohol to do it. Or maybe the file is too big for the disc?

I'm using a 8.5 gig Dual Layer DVD-R, the files come to a little more than 6 gig, from the error message, nero only recognises DVD+R DL

I just got word back off cdfreaks forum that my drive doesn't burn to dvd-r discs, I reckon that might be it. Where's this seamless option bladetrinity?
