Iv recently set up Thunderbird on another PC in the house. It used to use Outlook Express (we run a business - B&B) and all our address book, settings and mail were all imported over to Thunderbird. Its all set up now, and the accounts are added. But for some strange reason, it times out when trying to connect to my ISP's mailserver (mail.utvinternet.com). I set up the username to give, but it never asks me to enter a password.

Thunderbird is the only client which cant connect to UTV Mailserver. Outlook Express has no problem doing so.

Also, FireFox has stopped working since I upgraded it. All visits "Time Out" to sites.

What could be wrong? Iv went over all the server settings and they match.

    Thanks all!

It could be something to do with your antivirus or firewall. If you're using AVG, sometimes if you disable the email scanner, you'll find your email back working again. Have had mine disabled for about 2 months now. Also, fast user switching and AVG Email scanner don't go together so disabling the fast user switching (I'm presuming Win XP) might be another solution. In Thunderbird, you might want to take a look at Tools - Options - Advanced and Saved Passwords. Delete any saved passwords in there and restart Thunderbird. When it goes to connect, it should ask you for a password.

If your account settings are exactly the same, then its likely that a firewall is preventing Thunderbird connecting to the net... Have you a Firewall on the PC?

The PC is not running a firewall. AVG Virus Scan was not installed (as it was a piece of crap :P).

I had Firefox running fine, untill I updated some security updates. Then that refused to work (Operation Times Out). So I went and re-downloaded it. Still no look. Then installed the Beta version of both FF and TB but STILL the operation times out.

    Any ideas?

Not even the Windows XP SP2 one?

    No firewall at all.

To solve the FireFox Problem: Iv tried earlier versions and no look. Latest News feature also cant get the news.

Tried disabling IPV6 in about:config (or watever its called) and that didnt work. Flushed DNS, no look. Sad

Tried http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website and creating a new profile. No result.

For Thunderbird I tried: Tried logging it (POP) but it remained blank (the log).
