Split Pot - Odd Chip

Was playing in Shortstacks Tourney last night, smallest chips left on tables were 500 chips.

    Blinds 1500/3000, second last table.

I made move all in for 13000 with AK, from mid position, small blind folded, big blind called with AK ... split pot.... 27500 in pot, so should have been 13750 back each.

So I get my 13500 back, as does BB, but where does that remaining 500 chip go?

I thought it was furthest away from dealer (me) but decision by vocal table captain  went to nearest dealer i.e Big Blind.

Who is correct? ... It had consequences later.

AFAIK, it's nearest to the button.

That's where my vote goes anyway.

That's fair enough then, the ruling was correct.

About an hour later I was knocked out in 5th, as so was 4th (the guy who won the extra chip) in the same hand, and he had one chip more than me when we got knocked out, €250 difference in the prize money.

The specific rule (in the Merrion, at least) is that the spare chip goes to the first person to the left of the button (not necessarily nearest the button). Thus, the big blind should have got the spare chip. Although, that aside, you were very unlucky that only a 500 chip determined a €250 difference in prize money!

...and believe it or not the Fitz rule is the same.
