I got this reply for the "System Administrator" of Outlook
when trying to send mails through imap.ucd.ie.

    "530 5.7.1 Relaying not allowed"

I think I have set up the client correctly, incoming
imap.ucd.ie, outgoing mail.ucd.ie, not using secure
password validation, my username the same as logging
    in to ucd connect..

    Pls help me out.

do u get this error while on campus or from home. The outgoing server (mail.ucd.ie) is setup so that you can't access it unless ur on an ucd ip address. which you wouldn't be if ur trying to access mail from home...

try your broadband provider's smtp address.

From home. Well, I thought you could setup the IMAP so it will work at home, that's what it implies on the configuration web site on UCD Computing.

For eircom, what smtp address is it?
    Or should I try smtp.ucd.ie? ;)

    mail1.eircom.net

leave everything else as it is and it should work

Now I put imap.ucd.ie as incoming and mail1.eircom.net
as outgoing. I'm now able to send mail but not to receive...
    *confused*

imap.ucd.ie is for staff only i think.

Ok, thanks alot! It works now, which means the information
on the UCD Computing web site is only for staff...

However, will I need to change smtp from mail1.eircom.net
to ucd's smtp every time I bring my laptop to campus
and want to log on to my mail thru outlook there?

yea think they haven't updated the site jsut yet. They have a guide here

    http://www.ucd.ie/itservices/itucd/shortcuts/mail_using_outlook.pdf

Yea you'll have to change smtp each time i think. Unless Outlook has some sort of location profiles setting. Don't know as I don't use Outlook.
