My mate's a JS in CS [hee hee] and there's about 70 in his class. Neil is a SF so he could tell us how many are in his class if he turns up in this thread.

Pimpin' it up CS stylee. Or something.

There's a big banana tree in the O'Reilly. That's why I chose the course.

Note: If ANYONE uses the acronym "ftw" in real life, I will kill you. and I'm not just saying that.

    Radioactive banana!?

Unfortunately for you all, I shall be there too. As shall Mystic Fibrosis/Dalamar/stevanavich.

Also, I think there are about 40 in Neil's class.

ah its not that bad. think about it this way, computer science is a course within the department of computer science/ statistics. computer science/statistics is a department of the faculty engineering and system sciences. engineering and system sciences is a faculty of trinity college dublin.

in total....thats a lot of hot girls to come to terms with :D

phh im doing ict and we had one girl in first year - dropped out 1/2 way through the year and now we have like 2, potentially 0 next year... god its disappointing!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 602 ✭✭✭edibility

Hmmmmh. Ten girls is too much competition. Six would be good. But! Bob! Omg! Had no idea you were doing the course. Another person I know :D which brings it up to....six. I think. Unless I haven't heard of other people. But still. Not bad for someone from the country :P

(any comparisions between myself and the sligo girl in the cs class ahead of us will be meet with glares and kickings)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 760 ✭✭✭ZWEI_VIER_ZWEI

Oh great; does that mean I have to share the class with country bumpkins? :(

one bit of advice to you my dear sir, do NOT settle for someone in your class, yea if she is fantastic and you want more than a ride then by all means go for it, but dont settle for anyone in your class cos beleive me, the awkwardness of it all post score can be horrible, especially when there is only as few girls to talk to!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

hehehe, fades right, it can be a bit awkward after like.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 760 ✭✭✭ZWEI_VIER_ZWEI

Just out of interest do we get any BOP types (male or female) in CS? I mean I know CS hasn't been the "popular subject" for about 7 or 8 years, but the Gov. has been pushing Computers in general as an area with lots of "oppurtunities."

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 602 ✭✭✭edibility

    BOp types?

So how many this year in CS?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭cianclarke

Rather than make another new topic, I'd just like to ask a quick question... I don't need a big long answer, but I'm comletely stuck. Basically...
Where do I go for CS (or Comp applications): UCD, DCU, TCD or UCC.
Cork is only an hour down the road, but I don't like the look of the course.
UCD course doesen't look as good as TCD or DCU.
DCU - course looks best but the campus and student life looks worse.
TCD - Course looks second best to DCU - campus looks bloody amazing, as does student life. I'm not talking from a "glug glug glug" perspective, just generally.
    Any comments at all?
    Go raibh míle!

Wrt campus..yes it does look nicer from front square, but the Hamilton end isn't exactly paris in terms of architecture - it's almost exactly like DCU. Saying that, student life is definitely better in Trinity, cos it's closer to town and there's a better mix of people.

Yeah, suppose that building isn't a beautiful piece of architecture - still, overall the campus looks like a more pleasent environment... Anybody?

I'm trying to get my head around that stupid Digital Design book, it's kind of gibberish though. Do any of you older CS/ICT guys know any good books or online guides for beginners for that Digital Logic class? Having a complex book and a guy who looks like Abe Lincoln for a lecturer don't go hand in hand for me. Seriously, that last lecture he gave us... did anyone know what he was talking about?

Gotta love that beard :) I think I kinda understood that lecture, I just didn't understand what the symbol "e op" meant. By the way, I'm the vaguely normal looking tallish chubby chap who offered the Philosophy guy Negativland from my iPod if anyone is wondering who I am.

And does anyone know what lectures we are meant to go to tomorrow? I am so confused over the whole deal...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 103 ✭✭KamikazeBananze

Well, I know we had nothing today. To my irritation.

I borrowed that Digital Logic book today. Hamilton has a lot of 'em.

Haven't read further than the 21 pages I read during lunch on Tuesday.

And you'll find out who everyone is at the boards.ie thing in the Buttery.

On a side note, I was issued an under-18s student card. Can I still get into the buttery bar?
