    Hi there
I have a MSI K8N Diamond MS-7100 motherboard, setup and installed everything last night, worked grand, then I decided to do some updates, I installed the MSI utility to check for updates, got a BIOS update (1.7), installed that, rebooted floppy error, code (40), I worked on that but couldnt fix it, I don't actually know if it was ever working as I never used it! So don't really care anyway heh.

But now in my device manager I'm getting and unknown device, Mass Storage Controller. I then downloaded the latest chipset drivers, installed rebooted, seem fine... then whatever I did, while trying to fix the floppy drive, the unknown device reappeared, tried reinstalling the drivers again, didn't work, tried reinstalling tru device manager, couldn't find drivers.

My head is just frazzeled :)

//edit someone in work just gave me a possible reason why the floppy isn't working... good god if he's right *shakes head* lol

Disable the floppy in Bios, you have no need for it and boot is a teeny bit faster.

Should remove that from device manager then.

yeah I done that, the mass storage controller is something else, its coming up under scsi and raid... I'll try reinstalling again later, if that fails format, its just a fresh install anyway

hrmm this happened to me once before, that exclamation mark started popping up everywhere. it turned out the bios battery was knackered, though im not sure if you are having that problem if the mainboard is new. best of luck anyway :)

I doubt it, its just that one device.

Never ever updating anything again :)

That board has SATA controllers right? If so, the SCSI/RAID device being found could be the SATA RAID controller. Try getting an SATA driver update from the msi website as it may not have been included with the other update you already applied. If you're not using any SATA disks you could try to dissable it in the BIOS too.

Yeahs it looks like the SATA raid controller, I'm using 1 of the SATA ports, not using RAID at the moment but would like the option in the future.

I'll have look for some drivers later, and nag the guys in MSI support some more :) (4am nagging tech support this morning lol)

If its the sata you should have an extra driver not included in the main MSI install.

    Possibly on the cd.
