hi, i am fixing up a laptop for a friend of mine. its a HP Pavillion zt1230 Put a brand new 80 Disk in it yesterday. It refuses to too from a win2000 CD or a winXP cd saying NTLDR not found but will boot from a boot CD i made last year with Floppy emulation. If i boot with that then put in XP and try to install it, it gets a minute or two into it and saids End user license agreement (EULA) not found. windows setup will now close. this doesnt make any sense.

Sometimes in dos with it, ill try and reformat the C: and after presing "Y" to proceed with format it will simply freeze and sit there for hours doing nothing till i turn it off.

i even tried taking out the HD and putting it in another laptop to get the windows installation going then swopping it around but no luck.

    anyone got any ideas?

    Try debugging the drive!!!

I had a similar problem when trying to install windows on my laptop...

It would install kept freezing, so i just said F**k it and ebugged the whole drive..................

And then it was happy days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Word of Warning be careful when debugging your drive you can mess it up to the point of making it un-useable.

    So be careful!

I would try to check bios for hard disk security.
May it be write protected or password protected.
As this is a feature on some laptops to protect from viruses malware etc.

Firstly i suggest to put in old one and download latest bios for your laptop
    from manufacturer website.

Also check HDD troubleshooting pavilion zt1230

    regards

a ntldr error message is to do with a conflict between the master and slave ( a lot of the times anyway). Remove the jumper from the hard drive if it has one on it. chances are it is still on there. By removing it, your telling the h/d that its the primary device/master. At the moment i would imagine that your cd-rom is conflicting with your h/d.

If you look at the hard drive its the little removable plastic thing that covers one of the pins in between the cable and power slots. Just remove it, that should solve the issue

On most 2.5' drive the powerpins look same like ide pins and are directly next to each other. Most Laptops use primary ide controller only for hdd and they are jumpered master by default. NTLDR not found i only had this when i left in a winXP formated floppy in drive after reboot or occasional but rarely on hdd faults and virus caused boot changes. The master/slave issue usually was stated by bios message like it is not showing at all or an error (mostly desktops).
I still recommend to follow my above link first and check bios for hdd status.

You also have a chance that your laptop might'nt take a 80GB at all.
