    Hey St3vo

Good luck with the band ...

Caution though - I would be surprised if there was a viable demand for a VH tribute band in Ireland - looks like you're going after a very niche market. I would advise you to first talk to the various promoters / agents to gage the likely demand for the band before I'd put a lot of work into it (that is of course if commercial considerations are important to you). I think working musicians of the calibre you're looking to recruit might have similar concerns......

Hope it works out - and will come to hear you play EVH if/when you get it off the ground. Keep us posted and good luck !

I have allot of contacts with agents as i have gigged, toured, sessioned etc with bands since i was 14. PAYING gigs not garage band once a year jobs.
There is a space for it..... lizzy bands are also a niche and there was once 3 of them...well 3 worth talking about. Thin as Lizzy, Limehouse Lizzy and Tin Lizzy. Van Halen has Not been done simply because of the amount of work involved.
There will be a set wage also. A set of 1:45 - 2 hour could easily be compiled. Songs that people will know also. You could gig 2/3 of the greatest hits album.

This is all well and good but its having the time to put into it. At the moment im kinda stuffed to the gills with gigs and depping. But it depends on the interest of musicians. So far there doesn't seem to be much..... so this looks like its gonna fall flat on its face

used to sing for a band called kohol, we broke up about may and ive been in and out of a few bands since, i get singing lessons etc and im a pretty good frontman, been likened to dlr before as well as steve tyler/axle rose.
oh yeah only prob is ive no car or transport, on the dole an such, iv a mike but my pa's on the fritz at the mo, oh yeah if theres a set wage etc i could probably sort out a bassist and drummer no prob, maybe even a keys player

What gigging bands have you played with.... you sound a bit inexperianced to be honest mate. There will be a seperate sound man with a 3-5K rig.

...... you wont need your own mic.

Have you done a full 2 hour set with any bands. You may be a bit young for this type of thing to be honest

Lets face it though, a Van Halen tribute band in Ireland would never work. Okay, there's fans out there who would go to see such a band, myself included, but come on, think about it. The kind of glam rock widdley-wanky style is'nt very popular over here anymore. Well, it certainly does'nt seem to appeal to the younger generations, although I'd be in front of the stage, giving myself a hernia trying to do the split kicks.
If someone was putting a tribute band together seriously though, Nick (nicolo) is the man for the job. I've seen that ****er on stage and I don't think anyone could do a better David Lee Roth than him.

Whats with all the negativity people i was actually gonna do this myself about 2 yrs ago and i put the word out to a few people i know and the feedback was great got offers from belfast, cork, sligo and a gig in dublin and that was on the back of word of mouth the only thing that put me off was time and i did not have a lot of it! But if were to do it i think id only want to do the DLR era,and maybe do a few DLR tracks aswell so maybe it would be a DLR/Van Halen trib...although you wouldint be able to gig it every week in this country the most you'd get id say would be 2 maybe 3 gigs a month at a push...go with it man cause id go see yiz!! :D

Cheers mate. The time thing is a big factor for me aswell.
As you said it would few and far between gigs in dublin/Ireland. But Germany and switzerland etc would love it. Take Big Gen For instance they more abroad than anything else.
As for the DLR/VH thing..... Definatley!
    What you play SmelltheGlove?

As for the little Hot Head thats mouthing off. I havent got a clue who you are.... and as for the scar thing... you obviously dont know who i am either. But...... If you have such a problem with me and you know me so well why dont you ring me and we'll meet up and sort this out once and for all.....

Anyway aren't them so called "moderators" Supposed to be stopping thread spoiling and little kids who just found out how to say fvck.

I know theres only the few good musicians in here but the ones ive met through this board be it drumming or guitaring with them have all been good bands. Twas just me and my poxy job getting in the way which stopped me putting as much dedication and practice time in as i would have liked. But im back on the good aul 9-5:30 now and off weekends! WOOO HOOO

I'd like to retract my statement about a VH tribute band not working in Ireland. It would, but like the glove guy said, you would'nt be able to do it every week.
In saying that, it would be great to see it. If you do get it going, advertise the feck out of it cos there's a lot of shred-fans out there that'd love to go to a gig like that.
smelltheglove, what do you play in Erin Maiden. It's just that I work in the same place as Darren.

Actually I didn't intervene because I though you may know each other and were taking the piss, I'll clean it up now.

@ Dave - Yeah it would only be a "novelty" thing for the want of a better word.
Say 2 gigs every month or whatever. It would be perfect for someone who is already gigging as a side line thing.

@ Giblet - I thought i did but i think its just some wierdo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭Dave H

Well I wish you all the best with it man. If you do get it going, I'll be at the gigs with bells on. Well, maybe not bells, but I'll definitely have me trousers on :p;)
