Gym recommendations

I'm looking to join a gym. I'm living in Crumlin so have been considering Carlisle Health and Fitness in Kimmage and Westpark in Greenhills road.

Anyone got any advice/comments on these or other nearby gyms I should consider? The recommendations in the sticky above are nearly a year old and the search feature is unavailable so apologies if this has been covered recently.

I've heard the Ben Dunne ads about the 6 kilos in 6 months and 'we'll give you your money back' - but does this refer only to the membership fee or is it every penny you have paid including the monthly fee? I think the ad is very sneakily worded to make you think you won't pay a penny but really its only the membership fee you're getting back.

Do either of these gyms have a heavy punch bag or a mirrored area where I could do some shadow boxing? I used to box and would love to have access to these facilities though I don't have the time to join a club (did I hear right that Westpark have punch bags?).

I would be using the gym in the evenings and weekends.

Is there much room to bargain with gyms (e.g. 'Ive been offered this deal over there can you match it?')?

Gyms will not bargain over the membership price. Faceless corporation and all that!

I've heard good things about Carlisle. Westpark - over the amusement centre no way mate. IMO it's not upto 2005 standards or even 1985 for that matter!

I go to Carlisle, there's no punch bag, but there are two large mirrored areas, for free weights and stretching. Its a good gym, despite 98fm being pumped through the speakers, including the saunas/steam room.
