Relatively weak "pushing excercises"... any tips?

I seem to be unable to do pushing exercises from the shoulders such as the bench press, shoulder press and military press with anywhere near as much weight as I can do pulling exercises like the lat pulldown or shoulder overhead pulldown.

With the pulldowns I can manage 80 kilos or more in sets of 8 reps whereas with the bench press etc. I can barely manage to complete sets of 8 reps at 15 kilos. Why such a discrepancy and is there any way that I can do different exercises to increase my pressing power in order to get past my relatively low weight limits?

thats hard to believe since the pecs sometimes come into play during pulldowns!Although that depends on type Are you doing pulldowns behind neck or infront ? Behind neck is not a good idea due to strain it puts on the rotator cuffs.

    My view would be pushups!
With ur weak pushing power, you might only be able to do a few. Build it up, increase the pushups by 2 a week and work your way up. If you have trouble doing very few, try staying in pushup position with legs and back straight, and slowing lower yourself down until your chest is just off the ground and hold it. It will hurt but its very effective!
