hi, how would i go about getting my laptop to play audio through my surround sound system.

    i've a sony dav s 500 home cinema, and a dell inspiron 9300.

also, can i link my laptop to the tv, and if so, what does this do? can i record from tv, and/or play mpegs on the tv?

Was in the same situation as you. Dell 9300 and 5.1 surround sound.

There has been plenty of posts about this by me and others. For some reason search is disabled but if you look through my posts the answers are there.

Basically go to control panel. Then sound and audio. Select your default device(i.e. change from laptop speakers to your 5.1 sound card (usb or what ever)) . Then advanced and and select 5.1
