Now that I have 24-7 internet I am thinking of setting up my own homepage.

What's the proper (best) way to register a personal address for my site?
    firstname_surname.??? (com?)
    firstname.surname.???
    firstnameSurname.???
    fSurname.???
    firstname.???
    surname.???

Or are there better options? Is .com the way to go?
Unfortunately the last 3 on my list are taken, so I think that rules out option 2?

Plus anyone know of anywhere cheaper than www.joker.com to register?

    Try a .name e.g. joe.schmoe.name
    available from
    http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp

well if u went for firstname.lastname.com you would have to register lastname.com first and then arrange to have the subdomain firstname at lastname.com. Which could be a bit messy

As for other options, well depends on what your prefrence is and if its available. I've gone for firstnamelastname.com for myself and gf.

as for costs, for .com's godaddy and yahoo are prob cheapest at mo ($8.95 and $9.99)

Yahoo have sales from time to time. I got .com's from them at .99c once. Got a .com for 5 years for $9.99 last week but that deal is over at present.

Might find somewhere cheaper but yahoo and godaddy are good and reliable.

if you order web hosting with 1and1 you will get a free domain, but they only provide you with .co.uk for free.

A .com domain will probably cost around E10 but a .ie domain can cost around E60 so go for the .com if you can get it, firstnamelastename.com is probably your best option

I'm going to go with firstnamelastname.com

The 1&1 offer for €5.99 with private register details would be perfect, pity it's only US & Canada :( The UK offer is over £10 but doesn't offer private register.
Where can I get a similar offer with private register details for EU?

godaddy.com and yahoo.com are cheapest for .com's at the mo as I previously said.

Both offer private registering for $9. I don't think you'll get it for cheaper than this.
