This is driving me a bit crazy :). Why aren't all irish golf courses useing the same unit to measure there courses  . Its impossible, i dont no the difference, i think metre's is longer than yards, but why dont they all stick to one unit.
I went to a golf course where the driving range was in yards, and the course was in metre's  . I am going to have to find out how to convert from 1 to the other, but doing maths on the course is not sumting i want to add to my train of thought :o .

Yes, this inconsistency is a bit annoying. Also, the actual measurements are very often a bit off.

But it's easy to do a rough conversion from metres to yards - just divide the metres figure by 10 and add it on. Converting from yards to metres is slightly more difficult as you should divide the yards figure by 11 and subtract it.
    150 metres = 165 yards
    200 metres = 220 yards
    250 metres = 275 yards
    300 metres = 330 yards

I much prefer yards myself but some of the courses I play on are metres which is a pain in the arse. A quick calculation is the yardage plus the first two digits to convert to metres. i.e. 110yards = 110+11=121metres. My own course is yards and I forget regularly when playing a metre course - leaving my shots short all the time.....

Well i prefer metres but then i grew up learning everything in metres. I do hope they 1 day try and get all the courses to 1 or the other, would make life a lot easier.
As i said, adding a maths equation to my train of thought aint fun. Whats even more annoying is when they dont state whether it is in metre of yards, they just stick sumthing in the ground with 100 on it  .

I work in metres, and if i gotta convert to yards, i just take 10% off the yardage.. it's accurate enough for me anyhow!

You'll find most of the expensive ones will be in yards to accomodate our friends across the atlantic..

Or add 10% to the metre value...it's all this bloody metric crap that the EU and France are pressing.....golf always was and always should be a game played in yardage terms.....I suppose somewhere in the future they may even convert it to cm, now that might be a little daunting......
