Why is RTE not available when you take the card out of the digibox? But in the UK when you take out the card Channel 4 and five is still available, or free on a freesat card, i understand that channels are encrypted and stuff so we cant get them here, its just bothered me for a while why RTE just isnt free on Sky to us.

Why would it be free? I think it may be classed as a "free to view" channel - free as long as you have the correct card which you have to pay for. Skt would never have achieved the roll out in Ireland that they have without RTE on board. You can bet that they will be keeping RTE encrypted for as long as possible!!
