    Give me the year.

Some years are scarcer than others. When the Punt was actually in circulation, I could sell one to a coin dealer at Georges Street Arcade for IR£10.00. I think he's still there.

Now with the Punt gone, its anyones guess what they are worth. Its a scarce enouigh error. When I was handling a relatively large amount of coinage and notes on a daily basis in a betting office between 1997 and 1999, I came across 12 in that period. 6 were sold to keep my head above water (Beer money), 6 were retained.

The trouble is that there are probably a lot of people out there who have these, are'nt saying so, and think they are worth a fortune. They are'nt, and I suspect Brian (Georges St Arcade - Dublin), is sick of the sight of the legendary "milled edge" pound.

I'll say between 15 and 20 Euro, thats based on inflation, and increased demand since 1998/9. Get a valuation there, or possibly Mother Redcaps market if its still going.

Its year is 1990 and its in perfect condition. I remember seeing them in the Buy&Sell years ago when they were first around selling for for over £100 punt just curious to see what they're worth now

If its in Buy and Sell I'd be extremelty skeptical about putting a value of E126.97 on it (IR£100.00). You will be disappointed to find that you will be lucky to get more than E20.00 for this. The 1990 variety is the most common, roughly 1 in every 100 of the approx 100 million Pound coins minted that year had this flaw. This was because the equipment used for milling the edges of the large size 10 pence and 5 pence was still in use until 1992, so they were quite likely to get mixed up. Especially as the large 10p and £1 were similar in size.

I do have milled edge punts from 1994 (3), 1995 (2) and 1996 (1). The one found in 1996 caused dealers eyebrows to go up a bit, its the only one he has seen. So I've kept that one. Whether in years to come its found to be scarce enough to put a downpayment on a mortgage remains to be seen. If its as scarce as I think it is, well, a couple of thousand Euro would not be too much of a shock.

A good thing to remember with coins and banknotes is that they are normally not worth as much as you think they are.

Although, back in 1990, I did manage to give my Grandmother a pleasant surprise when she came across a stash of Lady Lavery notes and a couple of Ploughmen pounds. She was about to swop them at the Bank. I said.....bring them to Dublin and see what we can get.

She made three times more than face. The notes I did buy off her at face I kept, and soared in value once the Punt disappeared. But it was the smaller denominations 10/- and £1 that had the most dramatic rise in price. £5, £10 notes stayed fairly stable in comparison.

This is a hobby of mine, and I do have a fair idea of valuations. But do be prepared to be disappointed. There are still a lot of Punts kept in Books, Bibles, Drawers, all in the mistaken hope that they'll make a fortune some day.

Notes: If its in ragged condition, try and upgrade it for one in better condition.
If its torn, or worn to shreds, get rid of it at the Central Bank in Dame Street. There is simply no point in allowing inflation to erode what is only worth trading in with the European Central Bank for Euro, so they can shred it or burn it in Sandyford.

Coins: Sell them at a Car Boot sale. Sell them by weight to coin dealers. Put sets together. If its worn, thats what you do. If its in nice condition, keep it if you want.

There is a lot of sentiment involved with this, and I am just as guilty as the next person for indulging in it, but I have tried to make sure what I got was in the best condition possible.
