    A BEER FOR THE BRAVE
If you think the odd pint of Stella Artois or Kronenburg gets you tipsy, you may not want to sample Germany's latest offering.

A Bavarian brewer claims he has concocted a beer with an intimidating alcohol content of 25.4%.

So strong is Harald Schneider's beer that it is only allowed to be served in shot glasses.

He said: "People will only be able to drink two or three glasses, otherwise they'll drop like flies.

"Everyone who tries it is enthusiastic. It tastes like a quirky mixture of beer and sherry."

Mr Schneider puts the strength down to a fermentation process lasting 12 weeks, compared to the more normal one to two weeks for other beers.

The current record for the strongest brew is held by American firm the Boston Beer Company.

Samuel Adams Utopias is 25% alcohol and costs around £56 for a 24oz bottle.

Mr Schneider said: "I'm pretty sure the Americans have something up their sleeve."

They have the DT in an off-license in Fairview, not tried it myself cos of the high alcohol content.

And the challenge has been set!

Add a zero to that figure Ruggie and if Trojan likes the idea of organising it, I'd be well on for a trip to the home of good beer! A long weekend in Germany could easily be done for less than <€200, Cologne is quite close to the Dusseldorf (Hahn) airport that Ryanair use ;)

Youse would be better off going to Belgium surely? Direct flights to Charleroi for tuppence ha'penny and the nicest, strongest beers in Europe (tastes may vary).

I disagree here. I have been to both a few times and although Belguim has some excellent beers, namely Jupiler and Duvel, Munich still has the two nicest beers I have ever tasted in Augustiner and Hoffbrau.

I have still never been to Oktoberfest. This year would be too late but next Boards Beers should definitely be held in Munich at Oktoberfest. Any takers?
