I live in the shantalla exchange area in galway and its frustrating waiting for smart
they promised early august then late august and i have heard nothing. Is there any sence going with metro,

    http://www.digiweb.ie/broadband_metro_index.asp?i=80&i2=81&i6=90&zzz=hm

This offer seems good with free line rental.I have eircom for two years now but they are very expensive for 2 megs where as metro give 3 megs.any thoughts.
    Should i wait for smart?

I think huggs means he wants to keep his phoneline. I would go with ntl as well as I allready have their digital tv setup, Just they don't do phone service at the moment.

Things are changing so fast in broadband i am very wary of signing a 12 month contract with ntl.I think i will wait another month for smart.I will keep my phone line only if i get their service otherwise i will keep an eye on metro and other broadband providers and see how it goes.In this household we all have mobile phones. I have ntl cable and digital service at the moment. I also have an old sky box -card for fta channels which has given me great service ,love the bbc interactive and now that itv say they are going fta in a joint venture with the bbc things are looking good in that area.I am not a great film or ball fan. This brings me back to broadband and I dont like being ripped off by Eircom paying i think approx 72 euro for a 2meg connection and line rental. Is there by any chance anyone who has a metro connection yet? who can tell me what the service is like?

Don't know about Metro - but I've got ntl 1 Meg (€25 p/m). I've got the phone with UTV, and my monthly bills are only €10 (all off-peak calls to landlines in Ireland and UK are free), so all I pay for is the line rental and some small amount for miscellaneous calls. So for €60 I've got 1 Meg (and it IS 1 Meg) Broadband, line rental, and phone call covered. Not a bad deal, IMO. :D

I have utv as well for my phonecalls, The free phonecalls in the evening is dead great. All my family & friends are in UK so all calls are free. I must admit the line rental I feel is to expensive in this era with technology. A lot of firms offering free line rental now, so surely Eircom have to think about reducing it. I used to have ntl voice phone in old house but when I moved they wouldn't let me carry it over. If I could I would get all from the same supplier, Hopefully UTV may reduce their broadband cost. I also like Huggs have a FTA card in a sky box, So have the interative on that as NTL lacks that at the moment.

Does anyone know any broadband providers that dont require a 12 month contract. For people waiting for SMART to get their finger out.
