Supplement advice required

    I was thinking of getting some supplements to help me out in my training but I'm not sure what would suit my rouutine or circumstances. Perhaps someone guide me in the right direction. I was thinking something along the lines of protein shake???

    I'm 5'11'', 13st, slightly overweight and quite fit. I want to lose some weight and tone muscle.

    My training schedule is as follows:

    Sunday: Astro soccer - light session
    Monday: Rest
    Tuesday: Soccer training - Very intense and long cardio/arobic session
    Wednesday: Indoor football - Medium intensity
    Thursday: As Tuesday but not as intense and slightly shorter
    Friday: Rest
    Saturday: Match - Wouldn't play full game so no really an intensive workout

    My problem is that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I don't ususally have time to prepare dinner as I get home from work, head straight to training and get back for about 9.30 at which stage I'm pretty tired and not very hungry. I feel I could be missing out on an opportunity to take some sort of supplement to help the muscles heal.

    Suggestions much appreciated

    Hmm.. To be honest, if you're slightly overweight, you don't really want to start taking a protein shake. If you want to lose weight and tone muscle, keep doing what you're doing, watch what you're eating, and if possible, take up a weights routine if you can find time.

    If you don't have time to prepare dinner, then just grab something light in the evenings. If you're trying to lose weight, you shouldn't be eating that much after lunch anyway.

    I think Maximuscle do a range of supplements to help tone and lose weight, but I can't comment on them as I've never tried them. Perhaps someone else here can.

    MIC.

    Thanks for the advice.

    The problem with eating little is that I get unbelieveably fatigued. This it why I thought I might need some supplements. When dieting I find my mucles tire quicker at training and this isn't good as the intensity of the Tuesday and Thursday session in being inceased week by week.

    As for being over weight, I'm not too concerned, it'll fall off now that I've cut back on drinking (used to drinking 3-4 nights a weeks).

    I'll have a look at the maximuscle weightloss/toning supplement you mentioned.

    Maximuscle = too expensive. I'd recommend a good protein shake, maybe fat burners and if you need a sports recovery drink (like cytomax - same stuff cyclists use)... Send me a pm I could tell you good places to get stuff ;)

    man-in-cognito: thats a common misconception, protein shakes are actually the best thing you could take when trying to lose fat and gain muscle. Each protein shake mixed in water only has 90 calories all from protein. This definately wont put on any fat and will fill you up and make sure that your body doesn't take the energy it needs from muscle. It will break down fat for the extra calories it needs.
    I think what you are thinking of is gainer powders. These have high amounts of protein, fat and carbs and are good for ectomorphs(very skinny hardgainers) but not for people who are prone to putting on fat.

    ok then. im 6'3" and 17.5 stone. or 113.5 kg's or thereabouts. i do weights and cardio. so i dunno about soccer but i know that i have lost over 5 stone in the last 12 months so i can tell you this works for me.

    on the day i go to the gym i eat a 170-180 gram (LEAN!!!) steak and a plate of vegetables (spinach+brocolli+peas+sweetcorn+green beans). no salt, no butter, no milk or anything else with the meal (in my case). the vegetables provide a lot of good fibre and give me an energy boost and the steak is protein which tastes good (and apparently does something good for me :D )

    this provides me with protein and fibre. i then have 1 bottle of powerade when im in the gym.

    carbohydrates provide energy for your body. if you excess in carbs you dont use the energy and so gain it as weight (hence why white bread etc is regarded as bad in large quantities).

    By reducing the amount of carbohydrates you intake your body starts to burn fat instead of carbs. therefore you lose weight in a healthy way. cutting out carbs completely is a bad idea as you feel lethargic and basically f*cked.

    having a small bottle of tropicana daily normally sorts this for me. the problem with tropicana and most other fruit juices is they contain refined sugar which is both carbs+glucose which in large quantities does as explained above.

    i used to drink 1 litre of tropicana after every workout and it took me 2 months until i was told this is having a negative effect. so now drink water. i try to stick to my eating plan because i think its working. i have been losing small amounts of weight all over my body as opposed to a load of weight in one go like i did before.

    ++++++++
    this definitely works for me. i am not telling you to do this.
    ++++++++
