what reason did they give as to why you cant move in?

apparantly they were oversubscribed and now there's no room left,i've sent them the money and everything,if there'd been a bit more notice even it would have been better but i feel really under pressure now..

Wow that sucks. I feel bad, because my fees/license were 2 days late, and I rang them up and paid the the giro the same day. Have you talked to them yet? If you mention that you've already paid, they might be more inclined to fit you in somewhere..

well my mum's called them a few times but the receptionist doesn't seem to know what the story is and she said she'd find out tommorrow but she thinks that its unlikely that i'll get it

Ya poor thing. Dont stress though, you won't go homeless.

If DCU lets you down ask for Shanowens number, they'll have it, if that doesnt work there does be *loads* and *LOADS* of rooms and houses all around DCU.

If you've paid your in with a somewhat decent chance. Don't stress though!

yea i know but the problem is that i have to come all the way from donegal so it's not simple getting somewhere to hold out at!

Yeah thats what im hoping for, really would rather stay in res or shanowen than in a house, also im workin everyday until i leave so i cant go look around at other accmodation!

Seriously, within the first week there'll be HUNDREDS of places available.

Registration / Orentation week is mostly a peice of crap anyway! Only the Tues, Weds and Thurs are busy. So come up on a Monday, or the Sunday and see what you can do then!

I didn't get my accomodation on Res for first year, so I ended up living with three blokes, and had the maddest first semester ever. I moved in on the 24th of Sept I think, and my Debs was the 23rd and registration week was the 22nd to the 25th, so everyone does be going a BIT CRAZY at the time :) Dont WORRY! Its not like you'll miss lectures, or that they are important in first year ANYWAY!!

i think the email address is info@shanowenhall.ie but im not sure about that, ring up DCU and they'll put you in touch (defo ask for shanowen, its right next door, not that poxy one in ballymun) or just check the phonebook...

Typical of those pricks getting away with whatever they want. The Spanish students staying there over the Summer were allowed have visitors stay overnight and DCU students aren't because the Spanish had an assigned fire officer who's responsibility it was to clear the apartment.
Why this can't be done for DCU students is beyond me and pretty pathetic.

And those fire officers were people who lived in each apartment. Evidently they assign one person in the apartment with the responsibility of making sure everyone else is out. What a pile of crap tbh...

Anyway, the link for Shanowen Hall is http://www.shanowenhall.com/ strangely enough. :D

Their phone number is 01 8627714. Diane, the woman in charge is really helpful so you'll be grand. I'm pretty sure they have apartments still left as the first leg of their new development should be finished around now, plus you'll make just as many new friends over there as you would on campus.

What surprises me the most is that Res is sold out. Then again maybe its only Larkfield thats gone and they're being pricks and not letting the first years into Hampstead or College Park...

I'd say it's just Larkfield, and I'd say they'd give the OP the option of taking one of them. I'm pretty sure they had some 1st years in College Park last year after some people moved out

ok after lots of confusion, well im still pretty confused but basically theres some kind of error with the bank an they've not got the money yet but the guy said he thinks its pretty likely that i can get a place in res... Only thing is that i've been lookin at accomodation an i've found a place called the belfy which is only 90euro per week an has tv an broadband an all,it's a little further away though, apparently a 10 minute walk. Now im not sure which i should go for, anybody know anything about the belfry?

Also the reply's here have been really helpful, thanks guys!

The Belfry is pretty nice, I've been in the apartments, they're comfortable. They're well run. About a ten minute walk. Buses to the city centre go straight by it. There's shops and a chipper straight across the road from it. And a Bingo Hall!

Personally, first year I stayed on res. Had a great time, but the restrictions can be a pain in the arse. If you have friends on res it's great, drinking games and random wandering in the corridors.
