    Hi,

i have an external USB-HDD shared on my LAN and i just set the specific
rights and shares in windows on the computer it is most of the time connected to.
I dont think you gonna switch the device between the computers much, because
you want to restricted access to it in your LAN.

    Pendrive or hdd?

    regards

    might be slightly astray here,

we had a policy of disabling the USB connections for mass storage devices, and had an "allow_usb" group. it only disable storage devices, mouse and keyboard still worked.

I could track it down for you again if that would be of any help as regards restricting the attaching of a storage device to a computer in the first place.

if your client pc's have windows xp sp2 and you are using win2k/3 server as active directory there is a group policy setting to disallow usb mass storage devices...
