it all seems top notch to me anyway. But i dont think i would ever pay more than a grand for any PC nowadays because in a year or two it would have lost sooooo much value. Your better to keep inline with technology within reason and then to keep upgrading your rig as you go along, IMO.

For example, can anyone remember the price of the AMD 64's when they first came out and the price they are now! I'm glad i bought mine last month instead of 12 months ago, thats for sure :-)

    edit*

take away the pentium M and you have a PC that would actually only cost around 1000 anyway!

    (no monitor....erm!)

    It's a freakin' laptop!!

Yeah, looks decent-ish. Of course, you're paying extra because it's a laptop, but the Pentium M is great for gaming. With that card, it'll fly through games (unless that really is a 4,200rpm harddrive  )

A good thing to do here, though, would be to go for the cheapest RAM option, then remove the RAM when you receive the laptop, sell the RAM & buy some SO-DIMM memory from Crucial, as they'll be cheaper & better performing (the site will tell you which ones will work).

Good laptop, but it's a lot of money and I reckon a 7800 based mobile chip will be out in a few months.

Thats quite true. But then again, a few months after that ATi will have their new mobile chips out so...theres never really a good time to buy....!

Quite simply, yes it is an excellent deal.. I presume this is on the outless store? If it is, I would guess it is without VAT..

I bought one of these 4 months ago.. Was meant to be 2,700 but got it for 1,900 in the end thanks to Dell ****ing up many times :)

The screen is a 17 inch widescreen with a native res of 1920x1200.. The graphics card can be overclocked by flashing the BIOS, you cannot change the clocks on the fly..

There is a few issues worth noting.. I would make sure you get the 3 years NBD warranty if I were you.. I have had a few problems with mine.. I am quite willing to ignore these as the laptop addresses everything I need and nothing comes near it performance wise..

The first problem I had was with light leakage.. This annoyed me and they had a new screen out to me within two days..

Then I had problems with the GPU. I was getting random reboots during some maps in CS:S.. They send me out a new GPU but the problem persisted.. Seemingly their is a problem with the first revisions of the GPU..

They are now giving me a brand new laptop :) 4 months later.. While I have had a few probs, the dedicated XPS support desk are very good to deal with..

    Thanks for the replies people.

Well spotted jesus_thats_gre, it is from the Dell outlet store. The €1856 is including VAT so it seemed like a good deal to me. I know I could get more bang for my buck if I was getting a desktop but I need a laptop. Do you know if they do finance deals on PC's from their outlet store?
