Firefox/Thunderbird on floppy/usb memory memory stick

Starting college next week and off course they will have IE installed. Is it possible to use firefox or thunderbird from a floppy or usb memory memory stick? Can i still use the settings i have at home or they be different to suite colllege requirements? Jozi
