Billy O Sullivan. Man I remeber in 1985 ish he was a black belt with Liam Fogarty and they did a seminar in co monagan, I was like 13 and fogarty punched me in a job right hook and left me bawlin! I think there was another waterford champ then called Jimmy Barry, a real nice gentleman. I remeber me last fight 3 years ago, me disqualifed, for ahhh whatever , and jimmy says ah you were right.

we were all Mu Gendo Kickboxers under professor George Canning ( still a close friend) and him 68 and still sitting in box splits.

DLOFNEP ask the lads did they know Professor Canning?

I'm sure John Kav. would welcome em here also, new is good!

This is my first post on here or anywhere using Ubuntu Linux btw, thanks for asking ;)

Cannings Trained me Geroge snr Groge jnr (a serious world champ, beat PKA USA champs Tommy Williams, John Longstreet) and Dave C. backin 80s Mu gen do was probably the most progressive MA in Ireland. serious full contact kick boxers and many champs. unfortunatley what is called points sport karate in USA is now called kick boxing in ireland, man makes me bllod boil!

Joe C now is same but Gan Thora he calls itnow I think near sing street in dublin. used to train there 9 years ago!

back in 80s mu gen do (unlimited way in english) was sort of like a JKD then.

and the the hot thing then was Ninja sort of like mma today. what comes next I wonder. Irish traveler fightin!!! LOL

definately up for it, wont be lost on beginners though will it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

No not at all.. Majority of the people last time were beginners and loved it! no matter what level, everyone will benefit from it.

I will miss that as I am away in UK doing me NLP master with paul mckenna :-0

but I do want to get to a few of these seminares as me 12 month goal is to learn ground and bjj and anything else to do with it.

had me first "roll" last week with a guy and he showed me the buck and stuuf to do with that. only thing we were on a concrete floor!!!

I want to get a few months practice in before I come to these seminars. i d be only wasting an experienced lads time, he was partnered with me, and that wouldn't be fair to more experienced lads.

These seminars would benefit you alot.. Like I said, alot of the guys there the last time were first timers and learned alot.. They really enjoyed it and I'm not just saying this to try and sell the seminar.

Anyways Damo, shall I put your name down? If you pre-book, a week beforehand I'll give you both days for 70 instead of 80. Send me a message and let me know.

    hey guys

a couple of people asking me about content for seminar...

i'll be covering no-gi jits for both MMA and Submission grappling. Karl will be covering Clinch for MMA/Grappling and even the.......STREET!!!

anybody coming will have the opportunity to ask any questions and we'll do our best to cover it. both days will have a bit of both of us teaching and of course karl and i will be happy to roll/wrestle with anyone who wants to :D

I'll roll with you this time John, didn't get a chance the last time (out of fear!!)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭Musashi

And if any beginners would like to come but don't want to waste the lads time I'll partner with ye.I was at John' last seminar and had a couple classes with the lads in Tramore so I'm a pure beginner to this too. Rolling with the better lads they'll tell you where your going wrong rather than just busting you up, don't worry about wasting their time you won't be on the mat with em that long :)
So they stay on and roll with better lads and then it's your turn again for another try, sometimes the boys will be knackered and you'll pass guard on 'em :D Great fun anyways and everybody goes home sweaty and with new ideas to bring back to their clubs at home. Well worth a go and for a giveaway price really, so get to see these lads while you can, I reckon John will be so busy soon you won't be able to get to see him in a small class size like this anymore.

this seminar will be geared towards BEGINNERS with only fundementals covered. so regardless of style, association, dress sense etc etc all will be welcome and karl and I look forward to working out with you guys

just got back from training with karl at his gym in manchester this weekend and he's got some excellent Clinch drills that'll get you from zero knowledge to workable in NO time - well as short a time as possible :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,759 ✭✭✭✭dlofnep

Looking forward to it John! My clinch is dismal at best :)

Can I ask Karl about the gist of his STAB program? I dunno, but if lads had more of an idea what's involved it may make uptake of his next STAB course better?
Can't think of a better advert. than twenty MMA guys wanting to learn his knife defense course? And given that gun and knife crime is more common in the UK I'd love to hear what Karls take on it is?

The seminar is a wish list one anyhow, I'm just being greedy now :)

I can bring training blades and a practice pistol though, anyone want to try it out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭john kavanagh

Good to see you're having fun Shane! Take some pictures :)

If John permits me to record the seminar, by all means - I'll bring the cam along. That's entirely his decision however.
