I heard rumours two or three years ago that playstation were going to make a gaelic football game.I don't know if this is true but if it is I would definitely buy this game.you wouldn't be able to get me away from the ps2 and work would have me calling in sick.

i asked this in "game" if it were true and summer 2005 was mentioned.that was last summer and this summer rolls around and no game.the word niche has been thrown around to suggest its hardly worth their while.

well if they did bring out a ps2 gaa game it would be an instant hit.thousands and thousands would buy the game.they couldn't go wrong.I think playstation,x-box,gamecube or whatever should get the thumb out because they would rake in a lot of cash and gaa fans would be very happy.

Sean Kelly announced this earlier this year. The people who make the Aussie Rule game in Oz are making it.

Google "Sean Kelly" and Playstation and see what happens.

I think it's in production though

There is a very nasty dispute going on behind the scenes over this game, and has been for two years or so now, involving the GPA and the GAA.

The GPA had a deal done on this with a top international games devloper, and the GAA then got wind of it, and done a deal themselves with another developer based in Austrailia, as they had a direct line in to them via their association with the Aussie Rules Organisation.

However, image rights of the players (required for the game to be a top success) remains with the GPA, so this can very well all end up in court.

I was at a GPA awards bash in 2003 when the GPA showed their promotional video of this game, and it got a standing ovation and the place was electric, as it was just fecking brilliant.

I hope it gets sorted out, but I hope the players get their just rewards from it.

well, the county boards have image rights over their teams, stadiums & jersies, so for them to be included they'd have to be getting money too...

The county boards are covered by the GAA association, so there will be no problem on that front.

The problem is using the players images and names, even if they are J.D Carey, or Jasper Sherlock, or Oisin McConhille.... player's image rights are managed by the GPA, they are signed over as part of membership.

The only thing is that relations have improved since Sean kelly took over, so they might be able to hammer out a deal, but I do know that 2 years ago, this was a full deadlock and very very bitter feelings were expressed at the GAA's attempt to steal the GPA thunder using their GPA's player images without consent.

As far as I know as well, the GPA were to get the game developed in Ireland, providing employment here, but GAA shortcutted this process by using contacts that the Aussie Rule people gave them.

I was of the impression....and am probably wrong....was that it was being done in conjunction with that company in Oz because it would have been quicker and cheaper as they had the software developed due to the fact that they'd made the Aussie game.

Thought the problem over here would be they'd start at step one and encounter problems and delays along the way....

From the GAA's point of view, it absolutely would be quicker and cheaper to get this put through their Aussie contacts, but they went about doing this without the GPA consent, who had agreed in principle with a devloper here.

I think they will sort it out myself (probably already have) and take whichever route gets the product out to market the quickest.

Is that a real site, because it says the release date is Sept. 2005?

i hope the gpa and the gaa sort this out real soon as i can't wait for it to be released.it would be a great success and would give gaelic games the recognition it deserves worldwide.

How much of a success would it really be though, I can't picture them selling too many copies outside of Ireland.

When you think about it, how many Playstation owners are there in Ireland who'd by it and then stick how many ex-pats on top?

They'd have to be pretty confident of it being a economic success

i would imagine there are a few hundred thousand playstation2 owners in ireland and thousands of these are gaa fans.

i could see it selling in ireland,uk,parts of the us and canada, australia.

it would certainly do much better than some of the flops ps2 have released

That'll set the developers a challenge anyway :p

Seriously, this game would make my buy a playstation, it's got that much appeal !

They'll have to have it released soon for Christmas market if it is going to happen.

Outside of Japan, I think Ireland has the highest rate of console ownership per capita. It's an uncontested market so they're guaranteed a monopoly. And GAA is massively popular in some American cities like New York and Boston. I think it has the potential to really raise the game's potential outside of Ireland if it happens to be well done and playable

I agree, it would be brilliant. I don't own as PS2 would buy one and the Game just to play it, this would really revitalise my interest in video gaming that i lost when i was 14. I know people state side who were asking me about this, they were mad looking for it. PAL PlayStations would imported and all just to play it. This will be great, I am imagining controlling the Gooch as he thunders through the Tyrone defence for his 2nd goal in the 2005 Final which was held in Killarney !!!! Pity they don't do a hurling game though.

one of the two groups who are making these games said they would make a hurling one if the football one was successfull .

Excellent I wonder if they will be yearly like the FIFA soccer series, and if you can manage counties and buy players for instance Leitrim buying Owen Mulligan etc.

If the Football game is a success its almost guarenteed to become an annual game . however I doubt an players will ever be able to be bought .(I assume you were joking anyway)

It would be cool to have a fantasy gaelic football version. However i'd never want to see that in the real game.

Article about this on page 63 of The Star- don't think it adds anything new, if anything it's all the fact and figures that have been thrown around here compiled into an article
