NTL Digital picture ratios driving me crazy!

Agh! What is it with NTL (or the channel feeds), when I set the digi box to 16:9 invaribly one or more channels will not display correctly (usually BBC News 24 btw), my Sony tv has a ratio change control so I can correct the image but why does this happen? Is it that the feeds to NTL are not consistant or that NTL is'nt feeding the data to us consistently?

All channels should be broadcast using the same ratio!

    Mike.

No probs here, although i had a problem with RTÉ Two last week, but that has been since fixed.

Not all channels are 16:9 - most are still 4:3.

I've not had a problem with ntl: widescreen switching. Just set your box to 16:9, your TV to auto and if you're connected via scart your TV should auto switch to the correct format.

I've now got the digibox running at 4:3 letterbox which displays all channels broadcasting in 16:9 correct ratio (ie no stretch) though only by cutting off part of the image. All the Irish channels have cramped framing. The DOGs are either missiing completly (TV3 and TG4) or only part visible (RTE 1 and 2). I checked the terrestrial BBC channels and they are fine, same framing on analogue and digital.

Do you have a widescreen TV, or a conventional 4:3 set?

Um... Mike... does the aspect ratio change on BBC News 24, at the top of the hour??

Its a 4:3 screen but has switchable ratios so 16:9 can be displayed corectly with black bars top and bottom.

Damo I don't know. I'll check at 23.00 hrs, at the moment its behaving itself with the telly in the 16:9 setting. I notice BBC1, 2 and ITV are in widescreen on digital.

I just got digital recently and have been puzzling over this also

looks to me like the major channels (ie the irish channels, bbc, itv and C4) are all coming in in 16:9 anamorphic so they display fine using the "widescreen" setting on my 16:9 TV.

But many of the other channels are in 4:3 and my tv automatically switches to "16:9 Zoom" and I lose a lot of the picture.
