I have a pc ordered from DELL. It's coming with a Radeon x600 256mb video card. How good a card is that? I haven't a clue about cards specifics.
Will it play Doom3 (not that I want to - just using as a benchmark)

Any and all info appreciated. I searched boards and didn't find a previous post on that card.

Other co's have cards with x600 in the title - are the technologies related?

It will play doom, but not very well http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20050524/vga_charts-07.html

Other cards with X600 in the name will be using the same core from ATI but is assembled by a differenct company. They will perform the same.

If stuff is "large photoshop and some video" it will be fine.

I've seen Doom 3 running on that card and it runs fine. Fairly high visual quality, better then some of the older cards that claim to run it well.

But its not very future proof I suppose, you should have definately gone the extra 150 for the 6800.

Still though as I said it runs Doom 3, Half Life 2 and all such games quite well.

No idea how it runs hungrier games such as BF2 though. I've an x800 128mb model and it runs BF2 at almost full, so I'd imagine yours is close enough.
