company would you take it ? Could you have it on your conscience that everyday you go to work you contribute to killing people ?

Once the money is decent I would have no problem.

I'd sell my soul to the devil for a doughnut

Sure, just as I'd work for a beer or car company.
I think Humanities is the closest to an Ethics forum, btw.

I'd have no problem if i was in the acconts department (which is my area of expertise), but if i was to market the things then I couldnt do it, no way.

    No i wouldn't take it...

Mainly because i absolutely hate smoking...i would be the words biggest hypocrite if i did and i would have it on my conscience that i am helping to dish out an seriously unhealthy product to people

yeah i would!! I doubt many people would turn down an offer at a company making alsoholic beverages!! its pretty much the same thing....i dont see a difference anyway!

well unless it was like marketing them to kids or something!!

Not in like the marketing sector... I don't think I'd be able to live with myself if my job was to think of ways to convince people to take up smoking!

Maybe somewhere in the background, though, I dunno really.

    So the money's good, right?

Yeah i'd take it and my conscience would be clear. Tobacco companies don't kill people, they do that to themselves.

anyone who's stupid enough to start smoking deserves to die...........IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭c - 13

    Yes, I would take it.
I belive that its a persons choice to start smoking and they're hardly going to go saying - "OMFG, c - 13's marketing cigarrettes. It must be cool. Let's all start smoking !".
So, do i get the job ?

I'd love to hear that your whole family started smoking, then we'll see if you stick to that opinion.

It's quite true though... maybe not 20 or 30 years ago, but nowadays, to actually START SMOKING NOW given the sheer amount of scientific data that all points to smoking being dangerously unhealthy. It really is Darwinism at work if people take up smoking nowadays. The current secondary school population's parents were the last generation who can even consider claiming they started smoking in ignorance.

Everyones got to make a living, so yes, I would.

Everyone's aware of the risks these days anyway, so I'd have no problem. I'd have more of an issue with working for a company who used child labour or something like that.

yes i would,, fast food is almost as dangers as smoking, and people don't have a problem working for the likes of McD.

Bear in mind that smokers take more than their own lives into their hands - second hand smoke is a killer. It's because of knacker parents that hold their cigarettes right next to the pram they're pushing that I'd have a problem with a job like this.

Take the job, destroy the company from wthin.

Nah, i wouldnt take the job... work somewhere healthier instead

I think it's OK to have principles.
    But don't overdo it!!!!!

There are so many products which are bad for your health.
A friend of mine got in a car accident and is now paralised from the neck down! Do you think you can sell a car without thinking of the consequences of this "murderweapon".

I think there a lot of people happy with their "bad" smoking habits, and being happy is a good thing! :)

    Btw I don;t smoke

Wouldn't that also apply to car companies who sell cars to little boy racers ?
