there just ain't space in this town for two good poker clubs.

( And yes, im including the Merrion :) )

will be sad to see it go, was pretty well run and the lads were all sound. And as for the waitress.....

Wow...they seemed to be starting to get the crowds too. Wonder was it a legal thing rather than lack of business?

Theres plenty of room in this town for another good club. It just wasnt marketed properly. People are crying out for a decent game around town, look at the pub games, they are chocked out of it.... noone did the advertising right in that place, it could have been packed.

    DeV.

as far as i know it was closed down due to the casino side of things,

Some is speculation, most is true. The Mayfair was losing money in the casino.

Hardly surprising, they didn't even have a display for the roulette wheel showing previous numbers.

I've credit in there too :(

Dermo's place will be opening at the start of October on Anne's Lane - opposite Kehoes. It was supposed to open next week but was delayed due to building delays. He is spending a lot of money on in so it is really going to shake things up a bit. 14 Poker tables in the card room with room for more tables for the big festivals etc- no expense spared whatsoever.

would personally be a bit dubious about some of the staff that DD's place have poached from other casinos around Dublin. They seem to have selected some of the worse (but also some very good) staff. Can't imagine that the organisers have too much experience of running a casino...IMHO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,047 ✭✭✭Culchie

Maybe appropiate to start another thread, maybe not ....do the rates of pay for dealers differ much from casino to casino, or is it dependent upon experience, or is it a case that the busier the casino, the better chance of tips?

How many dealers are there in Dublin at the moment?

We seem to have discussed just about everything about Poker, except for the people who are central to it all.

Is it anyone's business as to how much they are earning?

As with anything, its important that they earn enough, but not too much.

    Victor on the poker forum.

    Damn, what are the odds?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78,577 ✭✭✭✭Victor

Shhhhh! I know a rake of staff.

I posted on Hoff earlier. I feel dirty.

Of course I hope the staff are being well paid, I just think it's a nosy question to be asking. Unless of course he is interested in becoming a dealer himself.

I'm not asking how much they are earning, I'm interested in the dynamics of the industry.

Why don't you take a chill pill.

As far as I know, the rate does differ across the casinos but not by much.

Mayfair was pretty good coz it offered tournies that aren't available in the other card clubs. It was more an alternative to the Fitz than ever a competitor but it was a good club to go to.

It does seem it was the casino side of things that ruined it though, poker room had become pretty popular but gaming tables were losing them money.

    hr@dublinmembersclub.com

    could be Dermot's new club?

If you contact me with your addy, i will send you on your credit, i will need your proper name, cos dont have Culchie on my list for the supersatellite.
Unfortunately I was away when the club closed, and it hasnt been too much fun trying to sort it since I got back. If you want to put the word out that who ever is on the list with the ticket for the super, can contact me and I will make sure they get their ticket value.

    Many thanks

Page 18 of the current "Phoenix" magazine has a small article about it.
    It's a bookie's office and a members only casino.
2m being spent and some Paddy Power staff being recruited.
    Sounds interesting.
