Firewire question...

    Hi,
I have a digital video camera. I need to get video off it. To do so I need to use a firewire cable. I don't have a firewire port on my computer. I only have usb. There is no such thing as a firewire to usb converter right? (what am I hoping for)!!! Is the only way round it to buy a card to plug into the computer with a firewire port on it? I know where I can buy one but I have no idea how to put it into my PC so would be hesitant on buying it.
    Thanks.

firewire and usb are too different standards, you'll have to purcahse the firewire card to get firewire.

with adding cards its just a case of taking the side off the pc, looking for a spare pci slot(the white ones), and taking off a blank plate that covers up the hole, and pushing the card in firmly, then boot up the pc, windows may ask for drivers depending on your version of windows

You can get a usb firewire hub

    Looks something like this:

Not sure if that specific one works but it's something like that, I couldn't find an example.

Best bet is actually to get a firewire port for your computer

In my very limited experience, downloading DV by USB is very jumpy, dropped frames all over the place. Firewire card without posh s/w should only be around €30, installing it is really easy. Just take a deep breath, take your time and wear a wrist strap properly grounded. ;) (A 3 year old could do it - or at least my 3 year old son could do it, but maybe he's... different...)
