Looking for a new MMORPG

    Hello all,

I am currently in search of a new MMORPG to play, as i just cant seem to find one i like. Can someone suggest a good one? And any additional info that might draw me to buy the game :)

I've played Star wars galaxies and enjoyed that for 2 years, but they fuped me over a great deal so i left. I had mastered 19 professions in hopes to unlock jedi, but then they changed the way to unlock jedi. And then they done the whole combat rebalance and, and i missused my last respec which left me with 0 professions, and the CS refused to amend. So i left.

I've also played EQ2 a great deal, highest char was a level 37 defiler. But got real bored of that game as its too group oriented. And it takes like an hour at least to pull a good group together, and i prefer to solo mostly.

I'm currently playing WoW but just cant seem to get stuck into the game, ive restarted characters about 20 times now. Due to finding out friends also play the game and causing me to change server and restart.

So can anybody direct me to a good RPG that can suck the money from my account at a steady pace? I was looking into guild wars and COH. But know absolutley nothing about them :(

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

see my post about eve online, if your interested, the subs is up in 2 weeks but id do a straight swap for a wow account and cd, characters dont matter much to me.

the way eve exp is worked is time based, so even when your offline the charactr is learning, my account has 3 months worth of training done and a good bit of starting up cash/stuff.

anyway, if your interested the option is there. (if you are in dublin i can supply the patched game aswell)

Bought Guild Wars last week and I'm completely bored of it.

As a gamer who prefers solo, you'll get nothing from it. The quests are very basic. It lacks that MMO feel.

I used to play WOW but gave it up as the solo questing aspects started to run a bit thin from level 30 on. Still, WOW was much better than GW. I played WOW for about 4 months, whereas I doubt GW will see 2 weeks.

    Avoid (IMHO).

BTW, I know what you mean about it being nice to play MMOs solo. Joingin a group can mean a big investment in time (e.g. an hour or more to do a raid in WOW). That's just not practical when you've got a wife in the background. At the same time, it's nice to have contact with other players for advice, help, trading, etc.

I dont like these tryouts too much effort for me and i may not even end up liking it, plus ive got a new beast of a system under works so i dont want to have to download it twice.

But im very apreciative of the offers lads thaks a mil. Can you guys give me a quick run down of how CoH runs? Eg. is it slow to level?, can ya solo alot? how big are the servers? many updates?

It has areas depending on characters where levelling will slow. The new changes in I5 change it dramatically though.

You can generally level up to level 8 in an evening if you have reasonable idea of what you are doing. They added a change that no debt until after level 10 and less debt while in missions.

You don't loose xp when you die. Instead you incur debt which takes 50% of xp as you level. You can generally burn this debt off really fast especially at low levels.

They also have in a place a Sidekick/Exemplar system. Basically you can team up with people well beyond your level to fight side by side.

    Here is what I found.
    1-8 Very fast.
    8-12 Reasonable.
12-14 slow (you get a travel power at 14)
    14-17 fast.
    17-21 slow.
    21-26 reasonable.
    26-30 slow
    30-36 reasonable.
    36-40 slow
41-47 depends (powerlevel requests kick in here).
47-50 If you have good teams it can go reasonable.

Those are on general playing. If you take a task force when XP starts to slow you can bounce right by the threshold.

On top of that you get a new power every odd level and chance to soup up those powers every even level (until around 40's when it messes up a bit). You can get temp powers and later on epic powers and accolade powers.

I'm obsessivly playing wow now for about 6 months I think.
I started off with about 7 other friends, only 2 are left now, but I am in a massive guild where I know pretty much everyone and am having a blast. I can see how the game would seem extremely boring after awhile, but for me the game is all about end game lvl60. If you prefer soloing and can realisticly only spend a few minutes a night on it I wouldn't go for it. Alot of the game (eps end) depends on grouping and spending hours in instances.

Now I don't know if this is the type of game you are looking for. It's a browser based game with up to 3000 players online at any one time.

It's called Torn City and one of the best things about it is that it doesn't have to cost you anything and it replies totally on voluntary donators so you don't have to put up with those annoying ads. You can donate if you want but non-donators are not underprivilaged.

The following text comes from the LOG IN page-

As you walk down the street you look around cautiously, scouting for a mugger, a thief or just your everyday killer. You open the front door to your condo, step in, and deactivate your burglar alarm. You lay your new Glock 18 on the table, hopefully it should keep you alive a little longer! What’s next on the list, Rob a bank? Train in the gym? Try your luck in the casino? Shoplift a chocolate bar? Sign up to the army? Or maybe even start your own terrorist faction! The list of choices is unlimited!

The game is very playable and addictive and there are some great online gamers out there always will to help noobs, me included. I'm quite new to the game too, only 89 days old but I do know how to look after things.

If you sign up (remember it's free to play) PM me asap and I'll help you out both financially and with advice.

    Torn City

I'd put in a second vote for CoH, its quite enjoyable and the travel powers (especially fly) at level 14 are just amazing fun. The whole game is quite emmersive and I actually caught myself imagining I was the hero while I watched several cartoons.

Either that or Eve, but i'd seriously recommend getting a trial of Eve before actually playing it. While it may look really good, as a wise man once said, its just a glorified screen-saver. Still though, try it out as it doesnt really promote restarting multiple characters, which may be exactly what you need. That and it is kinda fun :D

Thank you all for your helpful feedback.

After all that i have decided to go back to EQ2, with the recent release of the new expantion and the introduction to PvP the game is showing alot of promise. I really enjoyed EQ2 its just that the grouping became annoying which is why i left, ive been told by my friend who still plays, that much has changed and it is alot better now to solo.

I will however check out CoH and eve in the coming months.

    Once again, Thank you all!!

Found a handy dandy, free MMORPG under Beta developement. Been playing it off and on for a couple of months now. Here is the homepage and dowload site for the client. Fairly easy to play and there are a number of good fan sites with useful info about it, the best being the *O* guild site.

If you decide to try it pm me in game as Gadai or Abban and I'll try to be helpful ;)

in every way that counts the statement is true.
personally when the next decent twitch mmo comes out im going to jump on it. i really miss neocron :(

im tired of games that may aswell be a screensaver, eve also falls into that category i know but at least i dont have to shell out for a new game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Why dont you go back to Neocron then? The game is still alive and they have a PvP server now.

I prefer roma-victor it is still in its beta stage but that is sure to change in the coming months. Roma-Victor is all about two factions (barbarians and romans) at war against each other. Ireland has not been added to the map yet but it will be in an expansion pack.
There is NO SUBSCRIPTION fee too play just the beginning activation cost around 17 euros or 20 american dollars.
( Please for the love of all that is good join Barbarians if you do decide to join)

I second the vote for Eve. It's kept me playing for over 2 years now. I'm trying WoW aswell, it kept me intrested the first week, the second was okay, the third.... well I'm back playing Eve most of the time. Stupid pirates camping Rancer, I WANT MY ORE!

I suppose I'll give WoW a second chance but for now I have cruisers to sell.
