Just noticed a folder on my Hard Drive called "Temporary Items" and it's 23.17GB in size  !!

Thing is, when I open it, it shows it's empty. I've just booted up the machine so it can't be 'session' stuff which will disappear on restart. I've been wondering for weeks now why my Hard Drive is so full, now I know.

Anyone know how to trash this stuff? Thanks :)

    Where exactly is it ?
Do you use the machine for editing video or large audio or graphics files or even DVD projects?

It sounds like some app is storing files required for a project you created there, try "get info" from the file menu when the folder is selected and see who or what owns it.

It's in the root of the HD.

I use the machine for graphic/web design so it shouldn't be gathering that much. Also, 'Get Info' shows that the folder was 'created' and 'last modified' at the same time last wednesday week so it seems to have been a one-off!

    Strange...

Do you recall installing anything on that date or perhaps the machine crashed or you recall getting errors on some file ? If the file hasn't beed altered since then I'd personally risk deleting it or even moving it if possible to see if any apps complain.

No, don't recall doin anything or getting any errors? I'm gonna delete the folder "Temporary Items" and immediately create an new folder called "Temporary Items" and see if it fills up (with invisible stuff) again.

    Thanks ZENER

Just put it in the trash and emptied it, and it proceeded to empty 3,487 items (23.87GB, it grew today) :( Where were those files, and WHAT were those files?? Oh well, it's done now.

In Unix operating systems (like OSX), a file start starts with a . is a hidden file. They are normally used for configuration files. The OSX Finder does not show hidden files. It's probably that that folder is full of them. If you open that folder in a terminal an enter "ls -a" you should be able to see them. Though there isn't much point, as since they are hidden files in a folder called 'Temporary Files', then you probably don't need to see them. You can delete them with "rm .*" (again in a terminal).
