Hey, I'm thinking about getting into gig photography as a hobby. Could anyone point me in the direction of any sites that would give me the info on cameras that would do this job well?

I'm looking at the Canon 350d, but I'm not really sure!

Every bit of help would be great.

    Thanks,

    Ronan

I'm sure the 350 would be well capable when paired with some decent glass..

the seasoned pro, DotOrg, will be along shortly to advise you ;)

    Cheers! :D

Yeah, my dad has a few lenses that I'd be able to use! The main thing I want this camera to be able to do, is take pictures without using the flash!

hello my name is mr dotorg and i spend half my life being deafened by them damn music makers

i have a 350D and it's more than enough of a camera body for concert photography, it's the lenses that are far far more important

have a read of a faq i wrote and feel free to ask any more specific questions

Dotorg has covered the essentials in his post and link. On the lower end of the richter scale, I am shooting gigs for 12 months and 6 of these are with a 20D. Before the 20D, I started 'testing out' on a compact Canon Powershot G5 which took me into the realm of 'camera settings' etc. At HWCH I met a girl who was less than 6 months doing gigs and she had a 350D. As Dot org said, the lens is important. Regarding contacts, you simply meet people, bands etc. and this takes time, but there is loads of music to shoot in Dublin to get up to speed and grow your confidence. Its always good to talk to other music photographers when you meet them and share photo experiences ...... There are great music photographers and characters out there - AAAphotos, Whitenoise visuals, distortion ghost, Graham Smith, Miss Lilli etc. so you have loads of styles to look at - CU Out There and good luck!
