Insurance on Guitars for Shipment

I read the sticky concerning Instruments and I couldn't see anything concerning insurance for guitars being shipped overseas. I'm already upset at how much VAT and Custom Tax could put on a PRS I may buy from America, so what's the story with insurance, is it taxed aswell, have any of you imported quite expensive guitars and insured it, if so how much?
If it's hundreds more I don't know what to do, infact, has anyone ordered something really expensive from abroad and risked not insuring it? If so tell me how it worked out. In short how much am I liable to pay for Insurance on a €1500 guitar (incl.Tax)

You get insurance from the carrier. The problem with insuring it is you have to insure it for the full amount of the guitar but you'll get stung on that amount with customs. For a gutiar worth €1500, it's well worth it. Check out the shipping company's website for more details on insurance costs.

Yep, you pay VAT on the total cost of the instrument plus getting it to you.

I want to see good ol' Eddie Hobbs doing a program on this.
