more than likely missing codecs. google for koepi's xvid and install it. the avi's should play fine in winamp or WMP after that :)

I'm presuming its encrypted with a codec you don't have. Google the file name to see if anyone else has anything to say about it.

VLC (video lan client) will play just about anything. It plays normal AVIs and encrypted but remember the DRM stuff is designed to stop it being played illegally. VLC is also totally free.

Its probably just Divx. Go to divx.com and download the codec/player stuff there.
If not its another codec - download this: http://www.free-codecs.com/GSpot_download.htm

This will identify what codec is used and come back to us and we will suppy a download link for you.
If it can't identify anything - either you have a currupt file or its not an avi at all. You could try renaming to zip to see if its a zip file or .rar to see if its rared file. More than likely its not though.

    Try what i said anyways.

KL Codec Pack is good. Contains all the codecs u ever need to use with WMP and the like. Also has media player classic. Always works for me.
