I have a Trancend storejet portable HD for my FSC Amilo D laptop. I am wondering if it is possible to boot up the computer with the external HD connected. (It is connected by USB) i have to disconnect it before booting up at the moment. It is only a small problem, but irritating none the less. :(

The laptop I have boots fine with my Portable HD attached via USB, I did have problems on my PC as it only had USB 1.1 ports, however the laptop has USB2.0, and when I put in a USB 2.0 PCI card on the PC the problem dissapeared.

I think the issue was that the Ports did not provide enough power to run the drive, as it did not have it's own power supply.

what errors are you getting when the laptop is booting up, could it be the laptop is attempting to boot from the HD, try editing BIOS settings so that it does not try other devices when booting.
