Mobile Graphic Card

I have an alienware laptop. All has been fine until the weekend. The graphic card has gone caput!!!!!
I have reinstalled windows, updated the bios , slowed the bus speed down, used the omega drivers, used the latest official drivers (along with 3-4 older drivers) and the computer still hangs saying I have an infinate loop with the ati card.

Of course the warranty is up 2 months ago and Alienware do not have anymore stock of either Nvidia or Ati cards left that work with my laptop.

Does anyone know of a retailer of mobile graphic cards - on the web or store - that sells mobile graphic cards. I'm looking for either nvidia Geforce fx Go 5700 or ATI Radeon Mobility 9700.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, laptops are built with the graphics card installed into the motherboard, its unlikely that you can replace the graphics card alone. The whole motherboard will need to be replaced.

not necessarily, with alienware they made it easy to change out the graphics, they used plug in modules.

OP, AFAIK you can only get the replacement modules from alienware, so it looks like you're stuck unless they can order one for you.

check on ebay, I've heard of similar Dell Graphics cards flying about, namely a very rar 9800 they had in some of the american builds, but you may be waiting a while, otherwise try and get one that been broken. Have a mate who has an alienware lappie, dont think he even uses it anymore, shame :/
    Best of luck

    Hope these help.

Just a quick not also, The Mobility 9700 is infact more similar to the 9600xt then the 9700, so do consider a 9600.

Now let's take a step back here.

What exactly are you seeing? Where are you getting the information that you are stuck in an infinite loop? And how, pray tell, do you get an infinite loop on a graphics card? :)

Wasn't there a virus/worm doing the rounds a long time back that spewed some manure about an infinite loop?

When I get the blue screen of death. I get the message saying there is a problem with the hardware or driver, windows is shutting itself down to protect itself. It mentions an Ati file as a problem ati2davg..... I have formatted the drive reinstalled the OS, loading up the agp driver then the graphic drivers before anything else like anti-virus etc.... I have removed the card and reinserted it (rebooting before reinserting it). I have to start windows in safe mode to boot up the OS. Then I have removed the ATI driver and rebooted... Windows loads up fine although I do have black lines on the windows logo on boot up, (that to me is not good.) When windows boots up it tells me it has found new hardware and proceeds to install ATI drivers at my command, I reboot to the blue screen......
I am going to put a bit more pressue on the Alienwares sales rep tommorrow and tell you how I get on....maybe they can repair it?
