I'm lookin to buy a macro lens for my Nikon d70 - it seems there are loads for sale off Ebay from sellers in Hong Kong. Has anyone purchased lenses off Ebay? How reliable are those camera shops in Hong Kong?

    Thanks Guys. :D

I've been buying stuff from Kea Photo in Hong Kong for ages.. Got a couple of lenses, a flash and a few more bits & pieces. Very reliable, best ebay seller I've ever dealt with. I've always chosen the 3 day shipping with Fedex.. It's worth the extra bit of cash. Dont worry about import duty.. less said the better :D

How have you got out of it? I've got Fed Ex stuff before and I've been charged import duty. They paid it on my behalf and then sent me a bill for it, plus their own processing fee. I ignored it and never heard from them again.

I thought Fed Ex would have witheld goods from you until the duty was paid? Did they just hand over your goods and send you a bill? Did you get any friendly reminders from them when you didn't pay the duty?

UPS hold the goods. I had no idea I had to pay vat and duty until I received the letter from Fed Ex a couple of weeks after I got the package. O didn't get any reminder from them at all. I have since got stuff from Fed Ex and I was afraid they might mention the money I owed but they said nothing.

FedEx threaten to withdraw credit for future shipments afaik.. So if you get something pricey carried by them they may hold it until you pay up if they find you have payments outstanding.
