So what did everyone think of Friday night's bands? I saw...

Dead Girls And Boys - Probably the worst of their gigs I've been at.
Vamos - Deadly band. Some quality songs. Got their free cd.
Stars Of The City (half) - Not bad. Didn't know it was them at the time.
Mainline (half) - Meh. Left to watch Giveamanakick
Giveamanakick - ****in' deadly! Best time I've seen them certainly.
Idlewild - As good as ever. Thought they'd play more new stuff, so was happy.
Celest - Few good songs. Not great. Didn't buy the cd.
Rulers Of The Planet - ****in' excellent. As good as last year.

Quote of the night: This song's about the wheel. We invented the wheel, 'cause we're from ****in' Cork!
    - Rulers Of The Planet.

    So, thoughts?

My err "review" of last night is here.

Tonight's line-up for me (is it bad that I have it all planned out?):

    House of Mexico
    Dry County
Sanzkirt / Sundogs (gah can't decide)
    The Walls
    Rotators / Zealots
    The Bleedin' Bleedin's
    Betamax Format

Got high hopes for the last two, and Dry County.

Looks Like me and Romaaan were crossin path a alot last night, GiveamanaKICK, amazing stuff, White Stripes on speed, and the drummer is a hell of alot hotter than that Meg chick, even if he is a dude, touch of a Therapy sound from them, loved the guitarist antics, playin guitar on his back under the guys legs, class, radio leads on guitars aren't **** after all!!!! Not enough punk bands on the bill, Dead Girls and Boys I actually thought it was one of their better shows, bit slower than usual but it wasn't an all out punk show, it seemed to go down well enough, and their all ****in nuts anyway, it's usually just the drummer but their singer went through a few guitars launchin them about, photographers seemed to like them. Mighty Stef, gettin more and more like Johnny Cash every time I hear him, big man, big voice and he's sound too. gotta say I'm still singing some of his stuff to day, got some seriouly loyal fans and he plays to the crowd really well!!! Great show there!!! Caught Celest, couple of catchy tunes, tasty bass player. Caught Mainline, purely by accident, boring version of the Things, that many people on stage and not one of them coped they're ****!!! Heard Rulers of The Planet were amazing from a few people, pissed I missed them, looking forward to The Things this weekend, always a great show

Saturday wasn't nearly as good. There was no one I really wanted to see except Neosupervital. Saw...

    ITO - Meh.
Rí Ra - They could have been so much better. A lot of talent, but they didn't really seem to put it to use.
Me In The Park - They're good. But didn't really hold my attention for the full set.
    Mundy - Not so impressive.
Neosupervital - Class. Decided to leave on a high note after him.

Annoying that Saturday was so crap when there are about 3 bands I'm missing because they clash with other bands. Jamie Lawson and The Amazing Pilots tonight... What were they thinking?!

So far its been ok, but I've had to leave at 9 each night so far. Tonight I'll get to see a full night of it.

    Bands I've seen so far:

Hybrasil - Band of the festival for me so far. These guys have always have savage catchy tunes, but now they are playing them with lots of confidence. Bring it on.
Delorentos - Again, some great tunes, but not one of their vintage performances imo. They didn't seem that comfortable on stage and were let down vocally.
The Rubens - Excellent delivery of well written tunes, really impressed with these guys.
Bailer - Had heard great things about Bailer, but was rather underwhelmed to be honest. Not a bad band by any means, just nothing extraordinary or new to report about them.
Dry County - I liked this band, it's always a risk trying something new and experimental, but I felt they had enough 'newbie appeal' to hold my interest. Not the most exciting of live bands though, but I'm sure they'll turn out some good studio stuff.
David Hopkins - Didn't do anything for me, but the crowd seem to like him.

I saw most of the bands from backstage as I was helping out with the backline stuff. I was in the Olympia on Friday and Saturday night and of the bands I heard:

I thought Hy Brazil were great really enjoyed their music, Delorentoes were fine, I enjoyed Stars of the City, Mainline I was only listening to with half an ear so can't comment (more interesting stuff going on back stage), Idlewild were good.

Saturday; there were too many singer/songwriters for my liking, none of them really stood out from the rest. The Walls were grand and I didn't really listen to Mundy.

Sunday I was in the Music Centre and I enjoyed pretty much all the bands that played. Though I really liked Chuzzle, The Urges and The Guggenheim Grotto.

The Mighty Stef / Dead Girls And Boys / Giveamanakick / Rulers Of The Planet / The Things!

The best shows going, all were tops!

My highlights of this year's HWCH festival are:

    Jape
    Panda Kopanda
    The Chapters
    Red Kid
    Ann Scott
    Renko
    The Urges

Seen Mainline a few times before but this time I thought the Olympia was too big of a stage for them and it wasnt to their advantage...

Sunday was far better than Saturday. Saw...

Communal - Not bad. Some good songs. Wouldn't mind seeing them again.
Andalusia - Not bad at all. Have been wanting to see them for a while. Look forward to seeing them again.
The Things - Quite enjoyable, after not seeing them for a good few months. Sound wasn't great though.
Turn - Pretty good. But they need to play more from other albums, or release a new album.
Jamie Lawson - Good as always. Couple of new songs I hadn't heard before. All sound good.
Ginseng - Quite good. They played that one song I like.

They're playing in Crawdaddy on Friday with The Beat Poets and [LOST]. Really looking forward to seeing them again too, 'cos I only caught the end of their set at HWCH.

They have an album coming out on Sep. 23rd and a launch in The Village that night. I'd imagine the reason they played a good deal of golden oldies is that they're gonna be churning out the new stuff loads at gigs over the coming months. This gig was less for their specific fans, and more for general music fans, who may know a few of Turn's older songs.

    Highlights for me were:

Envelope (check out www.thepostroom.com for MP3s, they're excellent.)
    Turn
    Jape
    Dry County
    The Things - what a show. :D
The Flaws - they're supporting Nada Surf - score! :D
    Communal (as mentioned above).
    Chuzzle

Yea, suppose. Though a lot of bands would use something like HWCH as a chance to play loads of new stuff, and to get it known to "non fans" so as to increase the chances of a single doing well. Meh, either way, still enjoyed their set.
