    Well lads,

A mate of mine recently purchased a motherboard on komplett. He is assembling it at the mo but is having a bit of trouble. Ok the situation is as follows , he has 3 IDE ports . If he puts something in Port 1 it works but none of the other ports seem to work. So basically just number 1 works.

Would I be right in say port 1&2 are borked or what?

    Thanks

    WDK

Are you sure they are IDE ports causing the problems, as these are only for Hard disks.

They usually come in 2's with a smaller IDE channel for the floppy drive

Well you see he is putting the dvd drive in IDE 2 and put the hard disk in IDE 1.

He could try to make sure that the IDE cables are in the correct way for a start. Iv seen it lots of times where people put a cabel in upside down and nothing works.

He should have 2 IDE ports and 1 floppy port on the mobo so make sure the right parts are connected to the right ports.

What make of mobo is it and has your mate played around in the BIOS per chance and maybe turned off some of the IDE ports? Maybe a resotred to default in the BIOS might solve this issue?

if he is putting the two drives on two seperate IDE channels check the jumper settings on both devices are set to master. if they are on the same cable then the HD needs to be set as master and the DVD set to slave

He has done everything suggested but it seems to me that the mobo is damaged.
