    Hi,
I've been using an old laptop with a 10gig hard drive with my ipod.
I now need to delete all the files on the laptop (Full) to continue ripping Cd's.
Every time I connect the ipod via USB it will sync with Itunes and chk the library for changes etc.
If i delete files in the library, they will also be removed from the ipod, if I change the settings for the ipod to manual, will this allow me to do the necessary clean out and allow me to continue ripping cd's??
    Thx

There's an option in iTunes to manage the songs on your ipod manually. I forget how to do it and im on a different laptop at the mo, i'll post later, probably in the morning. But it can be done, not all the songs on my ipod are on my computer. It's something along the lines of disk mode.

You can't turn off the auto sync feature without first connecting the iPod, and as soon as you do it'll probably auto sync and delete everything. So to prevent auto sync engaging:

1 - Open iTunes and connect your iPod to the computer as normal
2 - Immediately press and hold: Ctrl + Alt + Shift (at the same time)
3 - Keep the keys held down until after the iPod appears in the source list and you are sure it won't auto sync, then you can release the keys. It might take 3-20 seconds (after the ipod appears in the source list) depending on your computer. This'll stop the auto sync from kicking in.

Then you can turn off auto sync (Edit > preferences > iPod > manually manage...) and manually transfer additional songs from then on.
