You can play games from anywhere in the world, on any PSP, be it EU/US/Jap.

You only need to be worried about movies, they're region encoded but games aren't.

They wont work on a normal ps2 unless you get a modchip for it or one of these swap magic kits :

It doesnt work on the slim ps2's as far as i know

Slim PS2's can be chipped. It's just extremely difficult and some modders aren't good enough to do it. Whatever you do, do not try to chip your own PS2 unless you are extremely proficient with microsoldering. A chipped PS2 is better but can be hard to find some one to do it and costs more so maybe a swap magic would work better.

Also make sure your TV can display NTSC 60Hz (try 60Hz compatible PS2 games, they use NTSC instead of PAL 60Hz). If it can't you will get a black and white screen of an even more unpleasant display. To remedy this you can either get a new TV or buy an RGB scart connector for your TV (about 20 euros in Game, you should also have this anyway because it improves visual quality immensely) to eliminate the problem.
