So it's break time in a MTT, and the Freezeout period is about to begin.

At what point is there no real value is using another 'buy-in' from your bankroll?

Opinions please, in terms of mulitiples of BB's

    Always an interesting question Culchie.

I used to have different rules but now I decide based on the stacks at my table (presuming my table won't be broken up for a while). If I am chip leader and even with top-ups I'll still be a comfortable chip leader I won't top up. Otherwise I will (the one exception is if I feel I'm playing very badly) I never play a game/tournie underfunded so the cost of the top-up doesn't come into it. If it does you shouldn't play that particular tournament imho.

obviously Ollie's answer is the best one. But, the criteria that i heard before is that you should top up if a top-up will increase your stack by 30 percent or more. Otherwise, don't top up. Don't know the rationale for that rule; but it seems to be fairly consistently stated...

Cheers, I'd been kinda using my own made up rule of that if I had 30BB at this stage (say BB is 200, I have 6000, top up is 2000) then I would take it.

Anything over 30BB, I hadn't as I would have thought it irrelevant at this relative early stage of tourney.... which near enough fits in with the 30% guide you mentioned, so I s'pose I wasn't too far wrong in my thinking.
