'Refreshing' a tattoo

I got a tattoo done a number of years ago. As time has gone by, there are areas in it that have faded slightly. Is it possible or advisable to get them re-inked?

The larger areas have slight variation now in the ink - it's not a major thing at all, I know, but I was wondering would it be common to get something re-inked every so often?

The pic is the tattoo when it was new.

If you want to maintain a tattoo then by all means go and get it reinked, in fact if the tattooist is still about they should touch it up for free, most artists give a lifetime guarantee on their tats.
