PC still ok?!

Moving into a new (old!) apt and was doing some redecorating at the weekend. Girlfriends dad was over helping. Had the PC setup in the corner of one of the rooms playing some music.

We were installing a light in the bathroom but the wiring was very old and couldn't make out the colours of the cables. We used the phasetester (sp?) to get the live wire, but couldn't make out the other 2, so girlfriends dad put in one of the wires and we tested! Very loud hollow pop from my sub and the main fuse tripped!!

Was in horror now that I'd done some damage to the PC. I rebooted and everything seemed ok. Just wondering if there was any damage that could have been done that might not be apparent?

I'm no engineer, and no electrician, but to me - if the thing still boots up I'd be counting my luckies and getting on with it, safe in the knowledge that all is well.

Once it boots up, most things should be ok. A power surge may have damaged part of the hard disk though which you may not notice until the you try to use that part, or the whole thing falls over. You should check the manufacturers website for a utility to check it (or there may be one in the free software sticky), or look for a SMART utility, there's a thread on them a page or two back. If that checks out ok just run windows scandisk and you should be fine.
