/Hi people can you tell me where most of the students in trinity live during the year, where do people live beside campus in trinity halls, what do you think are my best options? Do some people stay in the griffith college campus? do you know of the private apartments on the docklands who are advertising constantly on 2fm,
    Thanks for your help.

if you are starting out, then somewhere like trinity halls is good because you get to meet other people who are also new. It helps stave off initial loneliness that can plague people until they settle in. This is also the benefit of staying in other halls of residence. However, be careful they are not ripping you off and read the small print of the contract.

i recommend you jump straight into the private rental market.

i'd go for as close to trinity as possible, though this tends to be rather expensive, some places around pearse street.

rathmines has always been a popular spot, if i was living on my own i'd live in phibsboro, near the phoenix park, i always liked the look of the town houses there.

Phibsboro was a fairly nice area a few years ago, now it's just a sh*thole :-(
Ranelagh/Rathmines would be decent places to live and fairly handy for TCD

yeah that's my point phibsboro is genuine dublin living. it's a **** hole but it's very bohemian. i'd defintiely choose phibsboro over rathmines.

bohemian? There is nothing bohemian about phibsboro? It's a total dump and getting really rough.

    Just my 2 cents!

    OI!

I live there and have lived there for ages! ;)

It may not look nice outwardly, but is a grand spot to live in....... Its also very close to the city, Lidl/aldi/tesco and has green space and nice pubs.....

its nice near phoenix park, i was impressed when i was brought there, i love the old townhouse feel to it, something you don;t get on the southside unless your loaded can afford to love in the fine georgian houses. some of which are exactly the same style as the ones in phibsboro but cost about 50%more (eg those houses in Ranelagh).

it;s full of students aswell, and you;v got the zoo and the park to walk in, and the 10 bus.

  • I've met people who've stayed in the National College of Ireland halls in the IFSC, they're nice and modern, like Trinity Hall and around the same price. You share with students from there and various other colleges. All the ones I've met have been Erasmus students. It's probably too late to apply now but they may have cancellations etc. It's a good location, only 10 mins or less walk from Trinity. Also there are many private apartments in the IFSC, lots of people living there are looking for flatmates, try daft.ie to see if there are any available. They are very nice and modern, the price depends on the flat and how many people live there.

For houses, the student houses in Ranelagh and Rathmines are really nice, transport isn't a problem anymore with the Luas (traffic congestion really bad there in the mornings).

I live in Rathmines, about a 25 minute walk from college, and like it here.

An important factor in where you live is how you're going to get around, if you love cycling you have a few more options as you're not relying on public transport. Also, consider the 'taxi factor' - if you're going to be out late a lot during the week pick somewhere that has a good nitelink service to it, dublin bus have details on their website. Taxi fares can add up.

and youv got tram co, (soon to be) starbucks, lidl and aldi.

Ranelagh is nice (near to me) too but it's quite pricey for accomodation aswell (they'v so many coffee outlets though, and they's a place sellig pizza slices and a coffee for 3.50!):).

they'rs also loads of army fellas in rathmines with the brugha being near by, ohh and Burrdocks, love their chips...:)
